I don't think that's off putting. Whenever I see them, which is relatively often, they're fairly cheap.

Sorry, I meant the prices the US controllers usually go for. Seems to pretty much be $40+ with shipping. I'm not enough into Arkanoid for it to be worth it.

Unfortunately, it won't plug into an NES without modification. It uses the Famicom expansion port, as all 3rd party Famicom controllers do.

Oh yeah, duh. I don't have a Famicom, just an adapter I made for the NES and some clone systems. Thanks for the reply, but I'll just stick with pad play unless I get more information to where I think I can make one. I may ask for you to look for some other stuff at a later date though.

Yeah, $40 is a lot of you aren't really into it. I might get $30, but it's not really cheap unless you really want "authentic" Arkanoid and don't have access to an arcade machine of some sort.

You made an adapter for Famicom perpetuals on your NES? That's sweet.

Sorry I'm too yellow to get beyond my fear of breaking an Arkanoid paddle!

I would hope the arkanoid paddle does a lot more than simulate the d-pad. There's no reason it couldn't be a real analog paddle like the Atari 2600 ones.

Also, paddles aren't quite the same as a tempest controller. Paddles will hit a stop after going around a certain number of degrees. The tempest spinner is freewheeling, it can go around forever.

Although, if you really dig Arkanoid pick up an Apple IIgs. The port is arcade perfect, absolutely gorgeous on that little rgb monitor, and the mouse does a great job as an analog paddle controller. Only thing better would be an arcade machine.

Those paddle controllers for the DS sound pretty sweet though.

Sorry man, I was lucky enough to find one and I'd rather not risk breaking it :(

I have an Arkanoid controller of which I can take pictures. It actually wasn't very hard to get the thing apart. I wanted to see what all was inside. I will take a picture after I charge my camera.

Fantastic! There's more in there than I thought. I was expecting it to be something digital on the know, but it is doing analog to digital conversion on a standard variable resistor. Interesting. Well, looks like trying to make one wouldn't be as easy as I thought. But it would be doable with the values of those caps. Perhaps another day.

Thanks for taking the time to join and post. :)

Yeah, I was hoping it would be simple inside as well. It's really well-made. I bought this one from We-B-Toys when I was like 12. I think the game and the controller cost around $120 at the time.. Does this controller work with the RetroPort or whatever it is?

Sorry for bumping old thead, but... Congratulation, you have broken your Vaus controller! If you detach it like that, the resistance is halved and can't be restored back (it will still work but you never can get Vaus to reach both sides at the same time). Instead if you need to open it up, before opening the case, the potentiometer needs to be released from the top before removing the bottom part of the controller case.

I also received some confusing information which I need to confirm yet. I had similary broken controller like that (it was already broken when I bought it) and I brought it for electronic service man who apparently knows a lot about NES things. He told me that the VR1 potentiometer of this controller is not ordinary one but apparently patented by Nintendo himself and some specific detail is making the potentiometer irreplaceable and therefore claiming that it's not possible to replace with any other potentiometer and that the real replacement potentiometer would cost 200 euros! What???

But I still remember reading already that there have been projects making replica Vaus controller and so on... confusing really.
