Uh... actually, no. It actually started out as Tamagotchi-type electronic pets, and came out about a year or so before Pokemon. (And not to mention that the anime actually has a serious story... ^^;; But that's something for another thread! :lol:

Pokemon 1996 as a game
Digimon 1997 as a virtual pet

So it's not a ripoff but it seems Pokemon was older by a year at least as a brand. Can someone confirm?

Hmm... I guess I was thinking of the Pokemon anime broadcast rather than the game (Japan air date was on 4/1/1997, US air date 9/8/1998) But I guess since both were released so close to each other, and among many other similarly-themed games and anime in Japan, it probably wouldn't really matter what ripped off what...

There's a game called Monster Maker? :lol:

I wonder what kind of game it is - maybe Monster Rancher-esque? Or Pokemon or Digimon? Or something else entirely?

And that green-boxed Digimon RPG game has some nice, unique art!

I haven't actually played Monster Maker (Just powered on copies to make sure it works), but it looks like a dungeon maker/designer or at the very least a dungeon crawler.
