nintendo censorship in the old days

Post by grittykitty »

i think i learned from an old issue of egm back in 92 or so (with final fight and some other game i can't remember) about censorship in video games, and how nintendo was especially guilty of censoring their releases. here's an interesting article all about that with a few specific examples:

The knee-jerk reactions to censoring JP-->US or Arcade-->Console ports is still hurting Nintendo to this very day. Why do you think they have a kiddie reputation? And having a repuation feeds makes the reputation become more legit when there are 3rd parties involved!
Makes me so ANGRY...

i'll go play katamari now... (one of the most violent games ever made. wanton destruction of millions of stars????)

Wolfenstein 3d, Rocket Ranger, Bionic Commando

Wolfenstein 3d, Rocket Ranger, Bionic commando all had references to nazis taken out, and replaced by aliens or other nonsense, and it was really bad.
