NES 101 Toploader - Different Revisions?
NES 101 Toploader - Different Revisions?
I’ve got an NES 101 that I got in a big lot a while back. I finally pulled it out and got the reset button working (thanks to one of our fellow forum members), and now I’m looking at the shell of the console and seeing something weird. There’s a raised cursive e just about an inch above the reset button on the shell. I had a toploader growing up and I’m sure it didn’t have this e. I’ve looked all over online and can’t find another picture where I can see it.
It’s definitely part of the shell and it’s raised not imprinted. Is this a different revision of the console? Has anyone seen this before? Or is this always there and I’m just not seeing it in pictures?

I don't know much about shells, but I do know there are 2 versions of the standard system with the RF jack in the back, supposedly almost all of them are of one style, and the others are rumored to have minimal or no bars showing up due to better shielding. Then there's the non-retail called NOA and complained update which has the multi-av out jack in back and RF removed.

Yeah that’s the only information I could find about it. I would think maybe this is a replacement shell but it is so significantly yellowed that it seems like it would have to be original.

Could be a replacement shell made from shit plastic...

I really don’t think it is not original. It is picture perfect identical to the normal shell except the e and the bottom is clearly original. Plus everything else I bought from this person was original stuff that had clearly been gathering dust for years. Obviously I could be wrong but it would really surprise me. Plus who replaces the shell of a console just to let it gather dust?

Any chance for a picture?

I’m sure there’s an explanation that involves me being dumb.

Looks like super glue or some other clearish type of glue/cement that got on there. There's no way that "e" is factory.
I think with some serious work with alcohol and some magic eraser you could get that thing pretty beautiful again other than the nicks in it. That doesn't come off to me as permanently stained/plastic color shifted.

That’s probably it. It’s on there so well that all my attempts to scrape it have been fruitless so I thought maybe the second line of these consoles had an e (to stand for entertainment or something?). I’ll have to take a whack at it with something stronger. Weird thing to do with glue anyway
I’m definitely gonna give it a good cleaning/polishing when I get a chance.
