Wii shop channel closing down

Post by alienjesus »

As the topic says, Nintendo are closing down the Wii Shop Channel. It shuts down in January 2019, but you won't be able to add any more Wii points after March 2018, so that's really the end of the service.

Time to start perusing if you want any of the Virtual Console titles and WiiWare oddities before they're gone for good!

Lasted longer than I would have ever thought. Will miss that music on the Wii.

Time to throw tons of money at my Wii. Still got a few games that I want to download that haven't ever seen a release elsewhere.

Digital Failure again!

Always wanted to scoop up a bunch of the TG16 games... and there was a lot of Sega or third party SNES stuff on there too compared to the Wii U shop.

And you wonder why we emulate.

Well, 6 months more to put money on your account, and 15 months to spend it. That's not too bad. And given the Wii had better VC emulation than the WiiU, it's still a great way to get original and emulated content. It's not over yet!

You want far larger sale digital failure which I add to my list of reasons beyond that Kindle debacle over the 1984 release look no further than IOS11. They blocked anything non-64 bit. 1/2 my games are not useless icons hoping they get updated. A good bit of money there up in flames because of Apple being jerks and not supplying legacy 32bit support.

I'm putting this on developers, not Apple. Apple started requiring 64-bit support for any new apps or any app updates starting July 2015. That means the writing has been on the wall for more than 2 years. While I am annoyed that PopCap/EA is no longer interested in supporting Peggle Classic, that's their choice, not Apple's. Same for any number of other apps. I still have a functioning iPod Touch 4 I can use for those older apps. In the meanwhile, if there's an app you really like, maybe it's time to start pestering the folks who originally made it, especially if you paid them money for it.

And hey, iOS 11 has a bit of time to go before it's as snappy and battery-efficient on existing devices, so maybe don't upgrade to 11 yet if this is a real issue for you.

Man there are a lot of WiiWare games. There's at least 330 in the USA region alone:

I recommend:

Alien Crush Returns
Blaster Master: Overdrive
Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth
Contra ReBirth
Dive: The Medes Islands Secret (my most favorite WiiWare game)
FAST Racing League
Jett Rocket
La-Mulana
LostWinds
LostWinds 2: Winter of the Melodias
Mega Man 9
Mega Man 10
Muscle March
Star Soldier R
Stonekeep: Bones of the Ancestors
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

My favorite games from the service was the two Lost Wind games, MaBoShi arcade, all of the Art Style games, Pop!, and lastly Defend Your Castle.

I should buy those games.
