I think the NX is going to essentially be a Wii U Gamepad, but with the whole console built into it.

That'd potentially allow it to be the flagship console and portable in one. The Japanese market (at least) heavily favors the personal screen type setup, and off-screen play has been popular for the Wii U as well.

It'll likely have a dock or wireless HDMI to connect to a TV if desired. No optical drive, but likely some kind of card slot. No native backwards compatibility - continuing to account for every little control option for that is counterproductive.
What I think might be possible - in a similar vein to what Exhuminator said - is making it able to act as a Wii U Gamepad. So a "backwards compatibility" accessory could literally be a core Wii U console.

Well wii definitely made it sound more "casual" like they seemed to be going for. Don't get me wrong I love the wii and it has some awesome games but even I had to scratch my head at that one. Heck n64's Project reality or ultra 64 sounds better than what we got back then so eh...

I liked the name Wii, but not in lieu of Revolution. That name was boss. Ultra 64 also would have been much better. I think they should call the new console the Nintendo Gamegasm.

Do you think Dolphin would've been a better name for the GameCube then? I'm not entirely convinced it would've been, but Ultra 64 does sound a bit cooler for coolness' sake. I imagine they went with "Nintendo 64" for brand recognition purposes (Nintendo Entertainment System --> Super Nintendo Entertainment System --> Nintendo 64) especially in an age where most people just called it "The Nintendo" anyway.

I put zero stock into that. If we listed every patent Nintendo has filed that never saw the light of day, we'd be here for days. Half the time, they file patents as a "just in case" to keep any other company from stealing an idea that may or may not ever get used.
