If the speakers are on the bottom, that's not acoustically ideal. But as a cost saving measure I can understand why they were moved down there. Kind of like how the 2DS is mono only unless you use headphones.

As far as prices go, just looking at GameStop's website...

Standard 2DS (Brand New + includes MK7 installed) = $79.99

New 2DS XL (Brand New) = $149.99

New 3DS XL (Brand New) = $199.99

As far as regular 3DS XL goes brand new, I don't see any listings on GameStop. Looks like Nintendo isn't make those anymore, and they're edging towards $300 now for legit brand new units (on Amazon and eBay). I wouldn't buy a 3DS XL these days anyway, obviously go for the New 3DS XL.

I'm still a big fan of the original 2DS design. It just feels comfortable in the hand and I like the placement with everything. Yeah, it's got a mono speaker and it doesn't have the benefits of the faster processor, but it feels solid without the weak points of the clam shell design.

Anyway just my two cents.

Oh I totally agree with you, the 2DS is great. Let me take a minute to explain why I bought one...

I started off only owning a 3DS XL. Well turns out the 3D effect of the 3DS tends to bother my eyes after more than an hour or so, thus playing hours long RPG stretches in 3D isn't ideal.* Now yes you can turn the 3D off with a 3DS XL, but that produces a considerable scanline effect that I don't enjoy on such a low resolution. So I bought a 2DS a few years ago, just for playing longer stretches of SRPGs and JRPGs. The 2DS' screen does not have that ugly scanline effect going on, in addition to being built like a brick and very ergonomic. The fact that you can buy a brand new 2DS for ~$80 is a helluva bargain, one of the best Nintendo's ever offered.

*I still enjoy the 3D effect for shorter stints of action games though.

I never use the 3D effect so the lack of the feature is no real loss. My eyes weren't bothered by it but it was kind of annoying if you weren't spot on with the viewing angle.

Yeah, $80 is a great price for that and Mario Kart 7. You can get a refurbished model for $60 sans the game but still sports a one year warranty. Now that's a deal!

I found a couple of Japanese games yesterday at book off -- Doraemon Kart 2 GBC and Kikoh Senshi Gundam Seed Destiny for GBA. They looked fun and the price was pretty cheap. Also walked away with a few nice pocket manga too (7.)

Ok let's have some fun here, I've listed off games I own for the Gameboy(s) platforms over all those years. A thread the neo geo forum got me thinking so here we go. Didn't snap a pic of a 2nd oem headphone or a worm light passthrough either -- but this is current.

May the 4th be with you! :D

Final Fantasy 4,5,6, Golden Sun, Metroid Fusion, BOXED! That's a good chunk of change right there.

I see Pinball Challenge Deluxe and the other Euro GBA Pinball I want to get eventually and F-Zero Climax (JP). A few of the GBA FPSes I already have too. Almost missed the far superior JP Final Fight One.

Now I'm wondering if the GBA GTA is also any good...

I have got to dig around in my loft, I've got boxes for a ton of GBA games that I bought from Circuit City when they were going out of business.
