Yep, I am in agreement with you for exactly the same reasons you outlined, Flake. It's probably quite a surprise for Nintendo to see how well this has taken off, and the functionality hasn't been all that much so far in comparison to some of the programming required of the Skylander Series or Disney Infinity, though I am ignorant of that side of the work.
You're right though, I love the way they look, i haven't even messed with one in Smash Brothers yet. People love training them though from what I hear.
I wonder what their plan is now that they've seen the initial rush and buzz with the release of Amiibo. Are they going to take a cautious and conservative approach and not reprint some of their now rarer figures that had initial low supply and print? Or are they going to ride the wave and bank on the craze isn't one that's superinflated because of the holiday season?
I find it all so interesting, and exciting since I'm in on the buzz of it all. Went back to Toys R Us after visiting family this weekend, and no Diddy Kong or Little Mac, plenty of Zelda.
I'm still steadfast on the idea of having the original Smash Brothers Crew and the Zelda franchise characters, along with Sonic. Seems like Captain Falcon will be challenging. Then I'm done, unless Nintendo does something else to wow me.
