- I don't see them adding anything truly meaningful to the game experience. The Link one for example, simply unlocks a skin (MK8) and an item (HW, and not until tomorrow) in 2 of the 3 games it supports, and in Smash Bros, they're merely window dressing. I don't see people hauling around a bin full of these things to use in their Smash games, especially when they aren't player controlled. It's like paying $13 a pop for the worst kind of DLC, something that most gamers would scream blue murder about were it not for the 'it looks cool on a shelf' aspect.
- The collectable aspect...I went to a Wal-Mart today, and they had a section set up for Amibo, which was completely empty. Why? Because someone came in and bought them all. Literally all the stock they had. .......OK? That's weird. Hope you enjoy...selling them on eBay? Diving into a pile of them in your basement like Scrooge McDuck?
Like most people, I have various video game knick knackery/figures/books/what have you, but these just don't appeal now that I've actually seen them. Granted they do look nice, but somehow the concept is just hollow and shallow. I'd rather see them dedicate the resources towards games, especially on the Wii U...games that hopefully don't have modes tacked onto them to claim support for these things.
I know the way that I write sounds like "why u mad bro?" but I'm not. I just see this as a gimmick, and the shine is going to wear off pretty quick once the novelty of cheap Nintendo figurines wears off.
