Damn I got a lot of options. Do you feel the quality of the library is better than the Xbox or ps2

I'm sure some Sony fan will get ruffled, but yes. Xbox without question, PS2 would be more up to what games you prefer though. PS2 had the lead and a lot of games that the GC got in earlier years, but on the back half not much so at all. Xbox had a trickle of MS backed titles (forza, halo, gears) but other than that was a PS2 port box so it had little value in the big picture. Gamecube though had all those 1st and 2nd party offerings and other stuff they put a little cash/incentive up for as well, so you have lots of fun and unique experiences which you'd have a harder argument making on their last two consoles that killed off their console making division. What GC may have lacked in the quantity side of things against PS2 it had a heap of quality, and thankfully much of it isn't an expensive mess to get either unlike most other Nintendo consoles around some exceptions.

Only place it really falls short is RPGs. Granted, the GC has some good ones (Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Skies of Arcadia), but the library of RPGs on PS2 is massive.

As much as I love the Gamecube I would disagree with this in that it's not just RPG's. The RPG's were very good but limited in number. Where I think. it really falls short is in SHMUPS, runngun, and beatmups as well as fighting games. Yeah it got Ikaruga and a Capcom vs SNK title but it's really lacking in those areas. Of course not having a proper FF hurts as well. It's a great system but as Tanooki said it matters what you're looking for. For what I want to play it does really well. For others not as much.

True. Maybe I should have said "one place", or "Only place it really falls short".

It does have Smash, though, as well as Soul Calibur II. It also got a ton of anime fighters. And a couple of Mortal Kombat games. I guess Viewtiful Joe might fit in the beat-'em-up category.

Definitely weakest in the shooter segment. And I can't think of many other run-and-guns outside of Alien Hominid.

If you can get a Freeloader v1.06 disc like I do, your options do increase in some places of shortage a little bit. Take a look what both the PAL areas and Japan got we got hosed out of. There are a few more shooters and other style games where the US GC came up short. Not saying it makes a HUGE difference, but if you go from like 1-2 to like 3-4 or 5 options that's something at least. I don't have a big set of games, but within that I do have 3 of them are imported titles (Hudson Select 2 and 4 which are Bonk and Star Soldier) and PAL english Doshin the Giant. I had a list at one rate which had around 10 games on it between both areas of pretty good stuff. Radirgy was on it, Shikigami no Shiro 2(I had this once) both shooters like Choas Field/Ikaruga we did get.

Tanooki wrote:Two basically Dreamcast conversion/upgrade titles have gone inexplicably stupid on price, Gauntlet is one, the other is Phantasy Star Online. I'd love to recommend both, but if you had to have one due to price Gauntlet is the far better pick up since you can't get the other online unless you go through some hoops that isn't worth it.

I disagree; PSO can be quite fun either solo or multiplayer/splitscreen on Gamecube/Wii. Online is irrelavent to me.
...and since PSO on Xbox (has the same multiplayer features) requires a hack or an old live account saved to hdd to operate, the Gamecube port is more sought after.

On the subject of Gauntlet, has anyone
actually seen a NA Gamecube release of Gauntlet Dark Legacy that is the updated (bugfix) release? From my research it should show "DOL-GUNE-0-02" ON the inside ring on the back side of the disc. I have had zero luck getting sellers to check the right area of the disc, as it's practically invisible unless the light hits it right.
For reference, my copy is the 1st release, shows "00" for the last number.
Occasionally, a seller will picture that side of the disc, but it will be blurry, too far away, or just show the "00" like mine.
I think it's a myth ;), but I'd consider the purchase if I could find one. Heck, I can't even find info of what versions iso's/downloads of the game are.
...just another lost soul...

I would say no. Xbox has Panzer Dragoon Orta,Shenmue II,Otogi,Halo,Phantom Dust,Metal Wolf Chaos,Neo Geo ports,Jet Set Radio Future, jade Empire,ESPN2k5,PGR,Silent Hill 2. Some amazing stuff. Gamecube was a cool little machine but honeslty find Sunshine and Double Dash weaker entries into their respected series. Metroid Prime granted is amazing. Skies of Arcadia amazing. Killer 7 REmake,RE4 and some great stuff. It's very subjective. Probably comes down to more to taste. Even tho I like Xbox over PS2...I find it hard to believe anyone could possible think GCN has a better library than PS2. I'm not a big fan of PS2 but it does have 4000 retail games. There is a lot more to choose from GCN 500 some games. Much more varied.

I'd love to find the fixed version. Invisible inventory items can be a pain sometimes and I haven't even fought the bosses with their invisible health meters yet.
