Good news or bad news? The Wii is not going to cost over 250 in the U.S.

That might mean it will cost precisely 250 (well, 249.90 or whatever). I was sort of hoping it would go for 200, which it still might.

The Nintendo guys probably know how to cost it better than I do, but considering the expensive competition, a "under 200" price would further emphasize this huge advantage the Wii has over the "conventional" consoles like Xbox 360 and upcoming PS3.

I think it would still sell well and win the next-gen console war for 250 (but I'd rather it for 200 :D)

I heard rumors that some stores outside of the US (Japan, I think) are taking pre-orders for $160 USD

Look at the competition

I think nintendo thinks they know what they are doing, though they screwed up with the game cube. The xbox 360 is dead in japan, you can actually buy a used xbox 360 for less than the cost of a used DS lite, thats crazy. The PS3 will be outlandishly expensive, so I think that Nintendo is waiting to see if Microsoft will lower the price of the Xbox 360 in America to announce a 250 or 200 dollar price tag. I think they will launch at $250, I mean why not? They will sell out at christmas either way, I would rather see it at 200, but I think the strategy is to price it at $250 then cut it when demand drops. But I think Microsoft will cut the price of the xbox 360 around christmas by around $50 bucks for the premium. I am not sure how that will play out though, will people buy a cheaper 360, or a $250 Wii? The 360 is definitely better on the specs side so Nintendo probably should think twice about a $250 price point since its only a $100 difference for a 2.5 gigahertz processor gap with a hard drive!
