Very cool. I bet that artwork would have sold more copies too.

That's pretty cool.

Though I don't think the "Made in Mexico" thing means the game was only sold in Mexico - I always just figured Nintendo had a factory down there or something. (My copy of Super Star Wars says Made in Mexico).

Yeah that's why I never gravitated towards that theory either. Quite a few SNES releases were "Made in Mexico". There are also quite a few "Assembled in Mexico" as well. The other thing debunking that theory is the fact that on the back of the box it also says "FOR SALE, RENTAL AND USE ONLY IN USA, CANADA, MEXICO AND LATIN AMERICA". I still think the most concrete theory is they redid the box because of the newly introduced ESRB ratings at the time. Probably also redid the box to better portray what the game was about. While not conclusive, that just seems the most plausible to me.

I'm glad people like the art as much as I do though!

Also, HellHammer, thanks for the clue on where the lady is from. I tried googling Attack of the 50 Foot Woman images but couldn't locate her. At least we have a decade to start with though :D.

Cool artwork.

Is that the creature from The Creature from the Black Lagoon on the right?

There were plenty of late releases that were made in Mexico. I have an earlier print of Contra III that is made in Japan as well as a later one with the molded back information that was made in Mexico. My Super Turrican 2 was made in Mexico. I might have 1 or 2 others as well.

I don't know about this particular game, but I know that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 had different cover art for Mexico. Maybe this game is similar in that not all of NA had the same cover art.

As a bit of a follow-up, I recently discovered this variant and updated our Rare and Valuable SNES games list -- it ranks rather well!

For reference, I'm attaching a few more images of the box variant so you can see the back and also the full internals of the CIB package.
