Yes through Miiverse.

If you add somebody directly from the friends list though, they have to do the same. You wont be notified of a request.

I have no idea what Nintendo was thinking with that one.

That's ridiculous. I just added everyone on the list through the friends list. Guess no one will know.

Go to Miiverse
Go to your Profile
Search Users
Once you find the user, in the top right corner it will have an Add Friend button.

The Search is really picky too. Case doesn't matter, but you can't search parts of names and get a list. You have to search for the exact name of the person you're looking for.

I should note that two names on the list came up with no results.

I made my Nintendo ID but I haven't technically used MiiVerse yet.. I made a Mii but haven't used the client if that means anything..

Somebody added me last night and when I checked my home button on the gamepad the friends list was glowing so I opened it and it said I had a few friend requests pending, and it showed me the people who accepted my request and the person who had added me.

So it does notify you, you just have to check your friends list. Seems logical to me, stops the annoying as fuck notifications that you get all the time on 360. I prefer it like this, same with how it works on PS3.
