135. Megaman X3
Image
Easily the best of the first three X games. The Z-Saber and Gold Chip can be a lot of fun to use, going through the game legitimately can pit you against one of the hardest final bosses in the series, and Bit and Byte are nice additions, especially since they create four possible bosses in one of the final stages. Between this and the Vile related stuff, you can play through the game multiple times and still find some new content; this is pretty hard to say about any other classic, X, or ZX game. To top it off, all other versions of the game have a raped remixed soundtrack, but this cart has the original 16-bit masterpieces.

I don't mean to cause a flamewar, but I just can't agree with such a statement. X3 isn't a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, but to call it better than the first two X games is a little much in my view. I might agree that it's on par with the other two, but that's as far I'd go.

Still it did establish many ideas for X4 which IS better than the first two, so I cna't be overly harsh on it.

Depends how you look at it, it does have more content than the first two. On that alone one could argue it's better, unless one prefers the simplicity of the first two. That's essentially the only real difference between the three games is amount of content. MM X 2 introduced three optional bosses, MM X 3 brought more optional bosses and other extra stuff like chips and different mechs. I don't know. I've gone back and forth on the issue many times in my head. I'll just say that I played MM X 2 the most of the three and could run through that game in any order and could beat any boss with just the Mega Buster(though the optional one with the ball and chain always gave me trouble). However, I love MM X 3 for making Zero playable and it had my favorite boss music and Zero theme music of the SNES trilogy. MM X 1 has that awesome Storm Eagle stage though, one of my fave MM X series' levels and one of my favorite stage songs. All three are excellent. I posted the game earlier in this thread here:

As far as X3 is concerned, the bosses were harder than the previous 2 X games and the boss designs were probably some of the best in the series.

with that:

1. Super Mario World
2. The Adventures of Batman and Robin
3. Killer Instinct
4. Wild Guns
5. Street Fighter II Turbo
6. Sparkster
7. Demon's Crest
8. Battletoads in Battlemaniacs

If you peel away the negative hype generated by the Squaresoft die-hards who wanted Secret Of Mana 2 and believed that Squaresoft released this instead, you have an avant-garde RPG that brings a lot of innovative ideas to the table, and probably one of the most artistic RPGs on the SNES. What makes the game unique is the environments it's set in. I can't think of any other RPG that has such a vast array of worlds to explore (prehistoric times, ancient egypt/rome, midevil times, and a space station).
The 'spell' system, which is actually an alchemy system is a unique addition. Instead of learning spells through levelling up, you learn alchemy spells through people teaching you the ability. You end up combining elements in order to cast your alchemy spells instead of a magic/PP system. Heck, you even pick up alchemy elements along the entire length of your journey.
And Jeremy Soule composed the entire soundtrack, which is an amazing one at that. IT isn't an elaborate charlie-foxtrot orchestral piece (that the Final Fantasy series is known for), but rather a music-to-fit-the-mood-of-what-is-going-on-at-this-moment soundtrack. I literally play the game for the music and it makes the experience of the game that much more worthwhile.
It's definitely NOT top 100, especially considering the game was rushed through production (and you can certainly tell as the game goes on) and is laden with glitches and has various other issues; but Secret of Evermore is definitely worthy of a spot here
