I really can't agree with this. Darius Twin is an extremely mediocre shmup, perhaps the most mediocre shmup the SNES saw. My problems with the game are that your shots lack any satisfying power or the enemies are all over-armored. Shmups are suppose to make you feel like a total badass with the ability to blow nearly anything in your path up easily, and you just never get this from Darius Twin.

To add insult to injury, the level designs are boring, the enemy patterns are repetitive, and the music is again, nothing special. This is a game where you hold down Y and B the entire game and shoot over armored enemies with weak shots while going through repetitive landscapes while listening to bland music.

BurningDoom did you only mention it because it hadn't been mentioned yet? I am really curious why you feel it should be be among the TOP 200 SNES games and rather not on the bottom.

He's actually picked a few games that I don't think belong on this list, but this isn't a personal list. It's a community list. So I'm not going to tell anyone what should or shouldn't be on it. I think it'll make for interesting conversation though seeing him explain why Darius Twin belongs on here. I've never played it myself

I know this is the community list and we all won't agree on the picks and I'm not saying that Darius Twin should be tossed out simply because I think so. My post was more just looking for BurningDoom to post some reasoning why he feels the game belongs in the top 200 games. All he did was post the name of it and some screenshots.

In my view, the game is mediocre. Your shots are weak, the enemies are repetitive, and the game just isnt very fun to play. Having JUST played it a day ago, I'd like to hear why BurningDoom thinks the game belongs on the list since I definitely do not. That's all.

I'd like us to get back to the numbers again, but I think we need to decide on if SuperGameBoy should count in the top 200 SNES games.

As I said in a previous post, the Super GameBoy is an accessory like the GamGenie or the Satellaview. It's great and all, but this is the top 200 snes GAMES list. I don't think it belongs here.

What about the rest of you? How do you feel?

I would say no on Super Gameboy. It is a shame we're not seeing comments on everything. That's what was supposed to make the thread more interesting. I'm not gonna twist anyone's arm though, but comments and even pics make it more fun

I didn't know I had to give and essay on why I thought the game was good. No one else is.

But I completely disagree with your assessment on the game. The Darius series is one of the best shoot-em series out there, and this is the game that began it.

I don't know how you could think the game was bland or the music boring unless you're just not a fan of shoot-em ups. The multiple upgrades are great including shields, main fire, and secondary fire, and different types of each. There are multiple pathways to the end of the game, making the game VERY replayable. And the stages also have well-varied environments (not repetitive, you go through machine-like enviroments, lush blue & green planets, underwater, barren alien enviroments, etc.), and you move through some of them in different ways than just left-to-right.

And the enemies are bland? Enemies that are robotic sea-life is bland and unoriginal to you? How in the world do you figure that one? Especially with the boss-battles. This is the game that started that, the other Darius games came later.

The music is also fan-freaking-tastic. I don't know how you could hate the music. Every stage has it's own unique theme that fits the atmosphere of the levels perfectly. The same theme for every boss-battle does get repetitive, though.

Now if you wanted a bullet-hell game, yeah, this isn't it. But that's not what it's trying to be either. And the other games in the Darius series are better, but they came later so they should be.

Hmm..I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but we aren't counting accessories in this list, are we? This is the top 200 SNES GAMES. The SuperGameBoy is very cool and I've always been fond of it, but it's not a game, it's an accessory that plays GameBoy games. If you were to count the SuperGameBoy you might as well also count the GameGenie, Action Replay or the Satellaview itself.

I don't mean to give you a hard time with this, but it would like like if we had a top 200 Genesis/Megadrive game and you suggested the Master System Base Converter, the Sega CD or the 32X amongst the top 200 games.

I know this is kinda a gray area, but I don't think the SGB belongs in a list of best games. What do you guys think?

In all honesty I was going to ask if I could post this and knew it likely wouldn't get answered, I also knew I'd get some flak for it so I just decided to post it anyway. If people want to leave it off I'd have no problem with that as I understand the arguement. The Game Genie and Action Replay are cheap gimmicks and the others are essentially consoles but I get your beef. If I was going to get a SNES again this would be a top 20 must own cart but that's just me. To me it's not much different than something like Battle Clash or Mario Paint which requires an accessory to actually play and is worthless without it. Just my 2 cents.

As the OP, I'll just settle this here and say I'm only allowing games. SFC and SV games are fine, but add-ons are not. This is like calling the 360 HD DVD Reader, N64 Rumble Pak, or DC Karaoke Machine games. They're not. End of story. Now, back on topic!

Thanks for the post BurningDoom. I'm not trying to pick a fight with you at all, I just wanted to hear how you felt about the game.

I'm personalty a huge fan of shoot em ups. Next to action platformers, they are my favorite genre. It is for that reason why I'm so hard on Darius Twin. Compared to many other shoot 'em ups even on the same hardware, I think Darius Twin is lacking across the board. It doesn't have the speed of R-Type 3 or Firepower 2000, nor the customizable choices of S.T.G Strike Gunner or U.N Squadron. I know this was early on, but even at launch we saw U.N Squardron and Gradius III which are both superior games to

I do agree with you that the multiple paths through the game is a great touch, its too little too late because in my opinion, the gameplay is rather bland. You literally don't even have to move in most circumstances. You just stay in one place somewhere just left of the middle of the screen and hold down the Y and B buttons until an odd bullet flies in your path.

I just think the SNES was home to much more deserving shmups such as Axelay, R-Type 3, Parodius, Strike Gunner and Firepower 2000 just to name a few.

I'm glad you spoke up. I didn't want to be acting as the voice of authority here since this isn't even my thread. Again dont get me wrong I LOVE the SuperGameBoy, but its not a SNES game any more than the new RetroGen adapter is.

Super Bomberman 2 is without a doubt my favorite version of Bomberman ever. It has all of the fun chaos of four player Bomberman across multiple stages with different effects, supports the four player adapter, looks and sounds great and even has a very enjoyable single player mode!
