SM's Adapter Factor and The Controller Chronicles
Hey guys, just in case you haven't noticed, I've also started two new Miniseries on my youtube channel. These two new series are called The Adapter Factor and the Controller Chronicles.
The Adapter Factor showcases cool controller adapters that allow you to use unmodified controllers with other consoles than they were designed for. The Controller Chronicles focuses on unusual controllers that are some of the best around in my view.
Here's a listing of what I've done so far. I'll continue to post updates to this series, but the best way to keep informed is to visit my channel and subscribe. http://www.youtube.com/user/SatoshiMatrix1
I'm posting a few videos every week now, so check back often for updates!

GameCube to N64 Controller Adapter Review

The Gamecube to N64 adaptor cable caught my interest. At first i thought it was just a cable that one could build, but looks to have a chip in the cable to allow the programming of buttons. A good point showing how the Gamecube controller has a better Analog stick but worse DPad.

Generation NEX Wired Controller Review
Re: SM's Adapter Factor and The Controller Chronicles
I knew the Famicom controller cords were short, but I didn't know the Super Famicom were as well. This explains why Nintendo uses the world's longest A/V cable. They must expect people to have the console sitting on the table in front of them while they play.

Re: SM's Adapter Factor and The Controller Chronicles
It's really nothing special about Nintendo. In Japan, the average household is much smaller than the typical western one so with limited space, you don't need or want long cords. The average Japanese controller cord is 3 feet no matter what company you're dealing with.

Re: SM's Adapter Factor and The Controller Chronicles
Glad to be of help Mike. I would also recommend you replace the dpad. To each their own, but I don't like the sharp feeling of that dpad, so I took one from a junk GameBoy I had lying around. It all depends on how stiff or mushy you like your dpad to feel.
...
Try not to read too much into that or it might end up sounding dirty.

Then why have a three meter A/V cable? It's insanely long compared to other systems.Satoshi_Matrix wrote:In Japan, the average household is much smaller than the typical western one so with limited space, you don't need or want long cords.

Re: SM's Adapter Factor and The Controller Chronicles
I'm not sure that they are. Perhaps you just got North American mutli AV out Nintendo cables with your Japanese consoles? I would tend to think that they'd be rather short, considering the word length for Japanese power supplies are around 3 feet.
Re: SM's Adapter Factor and The Controller Chronicles
Japan had the same model of cable from the Super Famicom through Gamecube. Even the GameCube retail box is still labelled SHVC-008. The A/V cable and s-video cables appear to be the same length.
I bought a SHVC-009 (s-video) directly from Japan and it is the same length as the "USA" a/v cable: eight feet. I don't know Japanese writing well enough to determine where on the box, if anywhere, it says the length.
