Good S Video Cable for SNES/N64/Gamecube?

by ESauced Thu Jul 05, 2018 10:54 am

I see a lot of different options here and most have mixed reviews. Does anyone have an S video cable they recommend?

Also, some people do mods on the NES toploader to give it a custom multi port for A/V out. Can it be modded to support s video?

The NES mod is completely doable - svideo over multiout, but I think it is only possible with a daughter board.

I know Retrofixes does it, but I do not know there work:

Wow $250. I think I’ll pass on that but thanks for the info. That did save me some money though. I was thinking of doing the A/V mod on my toploader and that page had something about the Blinking Light Win. Only $30 to get my toaster NES reliable? I’ll go with that instead.

Yeah the price has steered me away from an NES RGB mod for sometime as well.

In response to your original question, the Nintendo brand cables are probably your best bet, but there are other options.

Custom hand made cables from this guy out of Poland with high quality shielding and no composite end for low interference. Decent price as well. Ebay link:

Chinese cables that also don't have a composite end. Basically the same as the cables above without the shielding. I use these for my GC and N64 and they give a better output than the Pelican brand universal cables I used before. Super cheap too. Ebay link:

Also Castlemania games has HDRetrovision cables in stock right now. If you are looking for SNES cables specifically and have access to component inputs, this is the best option. You need to mod the N64 or use a PAL GameCube for those systems though. I use these on a CRT and they look fantastic. Worth the somewhat expensive price.

Sweet. Thanks for the help. I’m probably just going to go with the cheapest option you recommended because that’s who I am. Haha
