Wii exploited already

Seems like someone found a way to run emulators on his Wii. Impressive, but seems like a bit of a hassle, and the fact you need a copy of GC Action Replay and an SD card. I bet most people won't bother, as purchasing titles from the virtual console is easier. Had a feeling this would happen though.

Also, I noticed from the loader menu, the files are .dol? I was always under the impression the SNES ROM files were .smc?

Yeah, someone has also already managed to get roms purchased via the Virtual Console to run on a system that didn't purchase them. However, I believe the exploit, or whatever it was, has already been fixed in the latest firmware. The Wii is looking promising, from an emulation standpoint. I think it still needs quite a bit more time for everything to become more polished.

No doubt. I am happy though that people are getting results so early with this kind of thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm no massive pirate or anything, but running homebrew apps, and other cool emulation programs on a current generation machine sounds like a lot of fun to me :)

It turns out that this "exploit" isn't anything you couldn't do on the Gamecube anyway, so all you are essentially doing is running programs from the GC SD Card Adaptor via the Action Replay. Still, it gives hope that someone will be able to come up with some new ideas for running homebrew and emulation on the Wii at some point soon.
