GameCube OS

Post by durkada »

In case anyone has a chipped Gamecube, you may be pleased to learn that the chip-neutral bios replacement, Gamecube OS, has recently been updated. Beyond the usual features that all chips support to some degree or another, this one allows you to boot ISO images, and a few other exclusive things. Plus, it seems to be more sturdy, bug free, than all the commercial chip BIOS'.

As a note, my chip had some compensating controls for various forms of media which GCOS does not have. What this means is that things I burned at 8x speed would work on Qoob's bios, but not this one. Qoob would kinda stutter but would continue reading the disc, but GCOS will not cope with it and the Gamecube halts with an error. Burning everything at 2x made a world of difference with GCOS -- it reads the media perfectly, with fewer bugs. Incidentally, this is the first time, ever, that I had to burn something at a slower speed for the target machine.

Pity the Gamecube homebrew world is so moribund.
