3.5" floppy to usb conversion board thoughts?

I've got a 3.5" floppy drive that I pulled out of a broken pc that's been in storage. I've seen these converter boards that plug into the back of the drive and run the power/data through usb.

This one is overpriced but it has good pictures. They seem to run $10 to 15 shipped if you can wait on a package from overseas.

Anyone ever used one of these to hook up an old floppy drive?

When I took the bar exam back in 2006, I had to save my exam results to a 3.5” disk. Again, this was in 2006; so, I had to buy a 3.5” floppy disk drive that attached to my laptop via a USB cable. I think I still have that around somewhere, and if you’re interested in it, I’ll give it to you. Just let me know, and I’ll start scrounging around in my basement to see if I can find it.

A thumb drive would have been so much easier! We had those back in 2006.

The last round of computers with floppy drives that I ordered at work was in 2007. We had several people complain in 2008 when we started getting computers without them. I still have the USB floppy drive that I loaned them to move their files somewhere more modern. Every 5 years or so I have to blow the dust off of it because someone found a floppy that might have something important/interesting on it.

I went with the Gotek floppy drive emulator. Its worked well for me so far but requires a bit of setup.

Thank you for the suggestion but I'm not replacing the floppy on an old system. If I ever do I'd probably use one of those. They seem very convenient.

A quick shout out to prfsnl for the hook up. It is much appreciated. I can now play Sim Farm to my heart's content. I just had to install Windows 3.1 in dosbox to get the game running!
