Genesis SCART Questions

Post by lisalover1 »

I've made a thread about this before, but I've recently come back to it. I'm thinking about making a component video setup for my NTSC Genesis. Basically, this is how I think it can be set up:

NTSC Genesis Model 2-->SCART Switchbox [For Stereo Audio cables]--> SCART Transcoder-->Component NTSC TV

So, I've been looking for a cheap switchbox and PAL-to-NTSC transcoder [I don't need the switchbox if the transcoder comes with an audio port]. Where can I find some of these?

I was thinking about getting this transcoder: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 3DWatching , but, someone told me that the power plug, even with the provided adapter, will not work in the US. Can anyone confirm or disprove this?

Since RGB - SCART holds the RGB cant you just use a converter (They go for like 5 bucks at Computer Swap Meets)? They come in a daisy chain format?

I need to do this in the future (To get color from my Megadrive when @ 60HZ) and no one could help me with a answer as to if it would work or not, but after reading around, this was the way I was going to try it.

No, I can't use a converter. Remember, I'm in an NTSC region, not a PAL region.

Why would that matter?

It would still output in NTSC, it would just convert the SCART adapter into Component. It does nothing to the signal.

Seriously? That would make things a lot easier. So, basically, I could connect this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Sega-Genesis-2-II-3 ... 2557082327 to this: http://cgi.ebay.com/1-5M-SCART-TO-5-RCA ... 56318854e6
With a double female-ended scart connector: http://cgi.ebay.com/SCART-Coupler-Joine ... 1e58affb14

The best thing would be to get Japanese RGB cables as they are much easier to get a hold of and can be used with an X-RGB unit if you ever get one whereas PAL SCART-RGB cables are wired differently and cannot.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

I don't know where I could find a JPN MD2 cable, but I want to know if the setup I suggested in my last post would work.

In theory it should work, someone else correct me if im wrong. I have my Foxtel which outputs in RGB SCART converted to Component using this style of adapter (Though its component not composite, I just couldn't find a picture) I got it for $5 from a Radio Shack style store.

I need to buy a MD Scart cable when I have the money, but I see utterly no reason why this wouldn't work for the reasons I gave you above.

I'd suggest talking to Hashiriya1 before he stops taking requests or one of our Japanese members to see if they can help you get one for cheap. Or you could always look on eBay or another site.

you need the converter. using those passthrough adapters won't work because you need the converter to convert RGB into Component Video, since NTSC televisions don't natively support the RGB signal that is being output from the game console

as far as the ac adapter goes, as long as you can find a US ac adapter with the same voltage and center positive tip it will work.
