CRT TV picture calibration tips?

by wip3outguy7 Sun Aug 16, 2009 1:04 pm

I picked up a 27" Phillips CRT TV the other day. I've owned one like it before but I'm having some difficulty calibrating it (no setup DVD, either). I thought I had a good setting the other night but when I gave my eyes a break for a day and came back to it, the picture was too green from high contrast levels. In an attempt to correct the problem the colors look good but the picture is too dim or washed out.

I was wondering if someone could point me to a good setup guide for gaming. I have a Saturn, PS1/2 and Dreamcast hooked up to it.

Here's some links to some professional advice:

I made my own stuff from images that I've had forever so I know what they should look like on any display. It's what I use to calibrate my equipment.

Burn the ISO to a DVD-R using IMGBurn and load it onto your PS2 or a DVD player, then download the PNG file and load it on to your best computer display. Next, tweak the settings on your TV until they are as close to the computer's image as possible. You should be able to get your tint, sharpness and saturation pretty good using it. For the saturation, you'll be able to see how high you can set it before the red in the flower and mushroom's cap start to bleed. You can set the hue with the test paterns and the yellow face at the bottom. The face is mostly yellow with orange fringes, so if you see any green at all or it's looking a bit orange in the center you've gone too far either way. Sharpness is easy to set with the red-pink circle at the top.
