Yet another drug movie. As you can expect, dark and gritty, but this one had a sense of humor as well. I like seeing Britain portrayed as a modern Western European country, rather than as a hybrid of early 20th century Britain + modern technology.

Not as good as the graphic novel. Left out too much, and wasn't as dark.

To add without putting words in Dave's mouth, EXIT is a clever commercial disguised as a documentary. EXIT is the BLAIR WITCH of "rogue art" documentaries; it is entertaining, makes loads of cash, has a great premise...but it's 100% bullshit.

Not the money. The money is very real. After all, that's the only reason EXIT exists. And not saying it lacks an artistic quality, but when you break it down to brass tacks it's a movie about an awesome artist who unfortunately is a facade.

Platinum Dunes is rebooting HALLOWEEN. Form and Fuller are on board, so I don't know what to think other than if it is possible to make a worse Halloween movie than Rob "zombie" did. PD seems hell bent on turning classics into turds.

MR. DEATH: THE RISE AND FALL OF FRED A. LEUCHTER, JR.

There is a phrase that I've used since I first heard it as a child "He has the charm of a hangman who promises he'll make it as painless as possible". Usually I refer to people in HR when using this phrase, but I've also said it about a few mentors and close friends. Moving on, Fred Leuchter nails the hangman part, but lacks any charm.

MR. DEATH is a brilliant documentary about a young child who would witness an execution that would forever change his life. Said child grows to be a man of integrity that designs machines built for those who have been sentenced by the gavel to death, but wishes to make the executions as humane as possible. And when you finally find a sliver of humanity in Fred Leuchter, he loses all respect. All respect, unless you count that from Neo-Nazis. Mr.Death actually goes on a crusade to document and conduct scientific studies to prove that the Holocaust never happened.

It's not surprising that someone obsessed with death would be drawn to the executions of tens of thousands, and what techniques were used. But the fact he openly admits that the holocaust didn't take place changes everything in the movie, and his life.

This is a perfect documentary and I would highly recommend it. It's educational, thought provoking, and entertaining as all get out. After you watch it you'll tell your friends about it, but won't lend them the dvd because you are going to watch it a second time.

JT: If you haven't watched MR.DEATH, go put it on your queue as you'll be fascinated with Fred's mind. He's a Psychology case study if there ever has been one. There's that, and also I learned one of the weirdest ways to die: after electrical executions (as with most), the body releases all waste (if you are putting down a pet, be prepared for this as well). You can step in the urine of someone electrocuted and the electrical current can flow through that urine and kill anyone who steps on it. Shocking.

Looks like this could be good fun. I'm a big Willis fan and this would give me a chance to see Henry Cavill before his turn as the Man of Steel.
