^right.

Ex Machina was like... I really liked it. But as time goes on I find I keep thinking about it. Like, I probably liked it even more than I first realized.

I also watched Ex Machina recently. I had just gotten out of the theater after seeing Annihilation (which is awesome btw) and I wanted to see more.

Overall, Ex Machina is a really fantastic movie except for one part I wish someone had warned me about.

I hate to use the phrase "trigger warning" because the phrase itself holds a lot of connotations and cringe-worthy conversation. I don't have a better phrase to use, so here's the (sigh) trigger warning:

There's a scene wherein Caleb slits his wrist lengthwise, rubs his blood all over the mirror, and smashes the mirror into shards.

I spent about two days thinking about suicide nonstop after watching that. It kinda sucked. When I was ready to crawl out of my depression shell again, I went to the movies with a friend. I told her about the scene in Ex Machina, and how it affected me. She recommended we watch Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri... which also has a suicide scene. Double You Tee Eff was she thinking?

^that scene was rough, and unexpected.

I'm really looking forward to Annihilation. It's one of my most anticipated films of the year.

Yeah, that scene stuck out to me because it doesn't make much sense unless you REALLY think about it and do your best to assign meaning to it. If it were in a novelization told from the viewpoint of the character, complete with internal narration, it would have worked much better.

"slow and weird" is exactly how I prefer my sci-fi.

the title sounds familiar, but looking it up - I don't think I have. Hmm.

or The Visitor yet?

What's The Visitor? At first I thought you meant The Guest, which is amazing.
