Haha, hey, whatever works! But don't short change yourself. You're making the conscious decision to use your break times to exert some effort in exercise instead of kicking back, eating donuts, or smoking cigarettes or something, and that's to be applauded.

I've been doing a lot of smaller self improvement things recently. things like being more cautions about my money and eating better. I'm eating an apple and drinking water right now instead of going out to taco bell.

Right on! It's neat how a bunch of small things can add up to big changes. And water is life; I try and get at least 2 liters a day.

Drinking more water sounds like a good idea. There was a time in my life when I drank A GALLON of water every day. Any dietitian would tell you that that much water is totally unnecessary. For my own qualitative experience, I can say that I felt great. I don't know if it offered me any quantitative health improvement, but it didn't hurt me either.

And before you ask, yes I had to pee a lot too. I mean, obviously what goes in must come out.

Bump. Time for your checkups!

Really though, wanted to bump this for some gym talk.

Do you go to the gym regularly?
How often and for how long?
What is your schedule for it?
Any tips or article/video recommendations that might help?

I think the first step is going to be the biggest one for me. So I kind of want a blueprint of things to do and fill in. This was kind of easy when I went to the gym at my community college years ago, we had a set time and had to do 2-3 rounds of reps with this one circle of machines and then you were free to do whatever.

My goal isn't numbers nor is weight an issue, but to simply make this a hobby and improve health. All the extras will naturally come with it. But yeah, you hear stories and I've seen it myself, people that hit up the gym with no plan for a routine probably aren't going to stick around with it for long. The biggest battle for me is just simply driving out to one so I'll have to get over that and stop being lazy. Would love to have a home with equipment someday.

I am mainly talking lifting here. I do yoga at home and love it. Also have some free weights and an iron gym, but that can only do so much and I think I would be more motivated being in an actual gym with many options. Cardio is hard for me though since my asthma is pretty bad, I was always one of the last ones to finish up the mile in school. Definitely not my favorite but I know I should probably try to get it in sometimes.

I'm still going to the gym 4-5 days a week, pretty much a religion by now. I just do strength training, no cardio, 4 day split on muscle groups. I pretty much stick to the big 3, bench, deads, squats. Even at 43 I've hit some of my biggest maxes even at my age.
