What were your or was the most common toys of the 80's
What were your or was the most common toys of the 80's
Next year I want to really detail my 80's room. So I want to add a cabinet with a bunch of 80's toys. So for anyone who grew up in the 80's we all know the toys. Transformers, go joe's Star Wars, thundercats, he man etc. So I know most of the toy line up but what I want to ask is for those who had these toys what I want to do is like grab the most common of some of the toys.
Like take transformers for example. So when you went to your friends house did everyone you know have a soundwave or a bumblebee or maybe starscream? Or did everyone you know have voltron or maybe everyone had hulk hogan or Andre the giant or randy savage from the ljn toy line.
So if anyone can give me some ideas of what I can put in my case then that would be great.
I want it so that when I have people come over they will look at my case and say oh my god I had that gi joe or transformer or say my god all my friends had this but I never had it.

80s toys were best toys. I don't know about common 80s toys. But here's some I liked as an 80s kid:

Re: What were your or was the most common toys of the 80's
I had that DND pictured game, got it at a garage sale when I was a kid down the street from me and it was fun. I'd love it again but no one I know would play that unless it has a vs AI mode?
I got one of those sectaurs in that goodwill lot the other day, had no idea what the hell it was. Probably a bad guy he's all dark gray with some purple on it.
This thread has real potential. mas and I had been talking the other day because of that goodwill find so I'm sure this inspired it a bit.
For me in the 80s my large focus was Transformers/Gobots, GI-Joe, HeMan, I had a blue Robotech Valkyrie(Max) and also the Jedi movie release of the light/sound X-Wing, Dairugger(or as I called it, lame car Voltron as I wanted the lions), Thundercats, Centurions(zip line warriors basically), MASK, and the usual kid car stuff like hotwheels and matchbox. Truth be told I got into Nintendo after Christmas of 1985 so it got more attention.
Transformers a must I would recommend, original leadership and their right hand warriors... Prime, Jazz, Blaster -- Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave w/buzzkill. Also shockwave is a must as is Jetfire (which covers robotech.)
Gobots -- Leader-1 and Cykill either the main little ones or the super gobot sized more detailed better transforming larger models.
He-Man -- Like Transformers, leadership and the right hand -- He-Man w/battlecat +Teela and Man at Arms (and Orko for being uniquely lame/cool) and Skeletor w/Evil Lynn + Beastman
Voltron -- Your choice, but a really solid cheap option look to the Shogun Warriors style line of mostly metal small plastic toys, around 5" tall. They'll go under the name Golion and Dairugger for lion vs car bodies, don't come apart but great for display.
Robotech -- If Jetfire doesn't do it for ya, you'll have to import as they locked down the Veritech/Valkyrie model but you can get a domestic Zentraedi battle pod or command pod.
I don't remember enough names of those Centurions so whatever, they're fun to string up. Star Wars is self explanatory, but I will say this with my recent research the figures themselves even in nice shape are cheap but the dumb little blasters or staves most came with get more expensive than the toy itself so maybe do without? Same with GI-Joe and Thundercats too, so many of them so pick your favorite really.

Re: What were your or was the most common toys of the 80's
Here are some of my favorite toys I had in the 80s.
I had this Master of the Universe playset and all the Evil Horde figures seen here. The snake puppet was cool.
I had this Boglin puppet. This was one of my favorite toys ever. I loved how you could control the eyes and facial expressions.
I had this Sectaur. He was so evil looking. I think he had a whip and net too. The body of the insect was a glove you could put your hand in to puppeteer the insect legs. I think there is a puppet theme to my favorite toys.
I had all 6 of these Go-Bot cars, that came together like Voltron. I sadly did not have Voltron.
I also had a Lite Brite for my neon pixel arts.
He-Man was the main thing I collected. I had almost every one of these figures too, though I didn't have the play sets.

For me, definitely G.I. Joes (and that was in Europe even), but I'd like to have had more Transformers as well.
Non-branded ones, marbles.
And Lego, but that isn't 80s specific.

Transformers, Star Wars, and Turtles were the 80s specific toys. But also the 80s era Lego:
