I have a few thoughts on why I have weird dreams or nightmares (mostly due to what I do before sleeping), but my one to remember is if you wake up and on your body you have "lines" or indents of the furniture/bed you slept on, you very likely had a bad nights sleep. Maybe not useful to see on yourself, but rather if you see it on your bed buddy.

Interesting thread!

I've had very few nightmares over the course of my life, only two I remember. The first was when I was very young. I was stuck in a cage inside a volcano with several other people. Lava was above us beyond some sort of enclosure, which was opened and as the lava began to pour down my father was outside the cage saying, "welp, them's the cards dealt."

The second was the first and only time I've experienced sleep paralysis. Basically dreamt that I woke up and there's was a shadow figure sitting on the foot of my bed and I couldn't move. That was genuinely terrifying as I had no idea what sleep paralysis was at the time.

I also had two very distinct recurring dreams when I was little. The first was basically white pillars and platforms, I believe marble, suspended in space, which I was standing on. That was it.

The other recurring dream was being in a house of a distant relative and as I explored an attic or crawlspace, I would find hidden passageways beyond antiques and essentially delve into a labyrinth full of hidden doorways and tunnels resembling composite rooms of old houses.

Nowadays.....I just dream I'm doing mundane tasks and wake up pissed like many of us apparently.

Today... things got scary.

So my daughter took a nap today after a doctor's appointment early in the day. Usually trips to the doctor and the like really drain me so when she went to sleep, so do I. I slept for a good 3 hours straight and was so pleased, except for the dream.

I dreamt that society had collapsed and my wife, child and I were in the fray. It didn't end like most movies portray it. There was no law, gangs of people roamed together and terrorized people. Some people just stayed in their homes and lived life like usual while others took matters into their own hands.

We were on the move for some reason, walking down an abandoned roadway until we came across a park with a small guest center building. We decided to go check things out and maybe find a place to stay, so we explored the guest center building. In it was a finished basement with signs that someone clearly had lived there, but the place was ransacked. The bed, refrigerator and lights and all that seemed to work just fine and there were only small windows near the ceiling to expose us to the outside world.

We decided to stay here while we could. Time passed and one day, I looked outside to see a man tilling the soil outside by the park. I watched him for a long while and saw him climb into an underground hatch. For some reason, I assumed that there was a civilization living down there and I was afraid they were violent, so we stayed away.

More time passed and a guy decked out in a basketball jersey and a baseball bat showed up outside at the park and saw the man tilling the soil. They were talking and I couldn't hear anything they were saying. The man invited him into the hatch and they went in. I assumed the gang member would lead his gang there to kill everyone and take their stuff so I was terrified, but my wife and I decided to wait it out and see what happens.

More time passed and a large gang came to the park to cause trouble. They were just hanging out and talking loudly, drinking and being crazy people. You could hear them talking and they were complaining about their gang member friend who was there earlier leaving the gang and trying to convince his girlfriend that he found a safe place to live.

We watched them and they wouldn't leave. For days they hung around here and decided to make the place their base of operations. We knew we had to leave.

So that night we waited and decided to leave in the cover of darkness. We started heading down the road and immediately near us was a shopping mall. We ran in to see what was going on and the mall itself was pristine and never touched. There was an elevator that we jumped into and pushed the up button. The elevator took us up to a penthouse sweet.

Everything was beautiful looking, but again, seemed ransacked and abandoned. huge windowed hallways connected rooms and overlooked the roadway. We decided to stay here the night and figure out what to do next.

The next morning there was a lot of traffic outside and we went to look and guys in Ghille suits were walking down the street with tanks and trucks. We saw the gang from before in the road yelling and screaming and throwing rocks at the guys until the ghille suit guys pulled out flamethrowers and assault rifles and opened fire.

The gang took refuge in the mall and we ran out of the penthouse from a balcony to the rooftop. On the roof there were expensive baby carriages, clothes, mattresses, old-timey radios and a bunch of strange objects that we didn't know what they were. While we were there, a gang member saw us and we panicked. We ran back into the penthouse and they were already there and we started to fight them.

A guy had a big metal chain he tried to hit me with and I grabbed it and was beating people with it until we cleared the room. When we were leaving to go to the elevator, two guys with guns were waiting.

One of the guys was really mad at me, because at some point he held me hostage and I laughed at him and was demeaning to him, but the other guy was like, "He may have didn't take you seriously, but he did not make fun of you!" and then they ran off to the elevators. I woke up. It was weird.

I have had sleep paralysis twice in my life and it was absolutely terrifying. The first time I saw this huge lumbering human-like creature carrying a sickle right beside the bed and I screamed. I genuinely believed he was there and I almost had a heart attack. I couldn't sleep for hours afterwards it was so frightening. The second time was I woke up to a person standing at the end of the bed and it they were very shadowy. Again, I screamed and flailed. Crazy times.

I juat had a dream where I was at a party, and guns got broke out. A car got shot to hell, and my friends all bailed, but I stayed with a borrowed gun for protection. The cops showed up, and I got arrested for a gun charge. I didn't do anything either. It was a shitty dream.

I had a dream where I dreamt that No Man's Sky came out today. I woke up in my dream to play it and loved it and was so excited, screaming that dreams do come true. I woke up in real life and immediately checked to see if it came out for some reason. NOPE!! Went back to sleep, only to have ANOTHER DREAM of No Man's Sky coming out! Man I want that game!!

At one point in my dream last night I sat down with a lined piece of paper, like I was taking a test in elementary school, and was writing down every video game composer I could think of to see how many I knew. I can't remember if this was timed or not, but other people were there watching out of interest and someone was moderating to make sure I didn't cheat.

What I remember most was that by the time I thought of Koji Kondo, I'd already written down nineteen other composers! I couldn't believe I'd left him aside until that far into the game.

I always want to write a lot in this thread, but my dreams are insanely detailed and long. I'll probably keep it to vignettes.

Great dream key!! By all means, be as elaborate as you like! I love dreams, not because I think they mean something, but because they are just fun, Weird flights of fantasy!

Odd thing is and I don't recall why this dream happened but a few times I've had dreams that predicted my own future and it's kinda strange but I can only remember one of them. It was apparently before 7th grade because in this dream for some odd reason I remember being in this classroom, which was a trailer with wood paneling. I remember looking up and seeing a light that said "Irish" on top of a bookcase. Couldn't of been 6 months later and I was in that class and saw that sign again...weird.

Though still not as weird as the fishmen dream(which was just a random part of one dream that felt like 15 minutes long with fish men, body of man but fish head in business suits...)...looking back hilarious, but man I think that scared the living tar out of a younger me...
