If you read Asshole to make sure you're not an asshole, are you making sure you're not just evil instead?

   Well I think I will take a break since those verbose philosophy books tend to wear me down. I managed to read this one between DmC sessions, an interesting and condensed critique of the cyber-jungle world of web 2.0

Books Read 2013

Recently polished off Hack/Slash Omnibus Volume 2 (it was the three-part Re-Animator crossover miniseries).

And not sure if this was this year or somewhere in the last two days of 2012, but... Zombie Cinderella, the first entry in the Zombie Fairy Tales series by Kevin Richey. They're only 99 cents on Amazon Kindle, and there's (currently?) only 12 entries.

I recommend the Skullduggery Pleasent And Evil Genius books to anyone who has children, though you may like them yourselves. Give em a try or let your kids give them a try if the are about 9+ (and good readers)

Service Games: The Rise and Fall of Sega
Sam Pettus

Though the game needs some serious editing (look for 2nd edition, recently kickstarted) this was a great read. It's really not so much a video game history book so much as a study in business. It's also slightly heart-breaking if you're a Sega fan. There's so many minor triumphs, or almost-did-it's. So many moments where you could believe Sega should have come out on top. But of course it didn't.

Really the story kept reminding me of Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie. That is to say -- WHO KILLED SEGA? It's not a simple answer. You can't point at one person. No. Everyone had a hand; be it Sony, Nintendo, Bandai, pirates, DVD's, pirates, jaded consumers, Sega themselves and anyone else who possibly could have any chance to put their prints on the smoking gun.

Recommended.

Reading Donald Norman's The Design of Everyday Things and an older Year's Best Fantasy collection. I've got Slade's Made to Break and Tyler's Japanese Tales in my queue, as well as some Gunsmith Cats manga and a decade and a half's worth of Year's Best Science Fiction (Dozois-edited series, best I've ever found). I keep buying books. Oh, I'm also partway into Sperber's Beer and Circus. Need to get back to that one.

It's been more than a month than I handled a book. Anyway I'm about to start listening to an audiobook of this

Of course the controversy doesn't concern me.. I just hope it's subjectively accurate, despite plenty of fundamentalists claiming otherwise (and it *is* hard to discern subjectivity in these matters)
