I leave for a few months and come back to see a respected member, gamer, and father; who possessed the same attitudes, age and experience as myself has met a terrible fate. I reflect that not only was he a gamer, but a man who did what he could in life and found a common joy that he shared with the world. As a fellow gamer and father, my condolences go onto his family and know that his legend will never die.

KelseyCheslock wrote:Dear friends of Blake,

This is his youngest sister. Thank you for your comments and condolences. Our family really appreciates the love you had for Blake and the friendships that you provided him during the past few years. Blake had had a tough couple of years and I know that this community (and his love of video games and knowledge) had helped him get through. He was constantly talking about games and he had an amazing collection (that some referred to as a "museum").

Kelsey,
This is the first time I've ever looked at this forum's off-topic section, and the first thing I see is this topic from Trevor saying that my friend, Blake, has died. Now I'm in tears. Aside from our obvious shared interest in retro Japanese video games, he and I have very much in common. We're both Christian, in our 30's, had lived in Japan, both married to Japanese girls, and both of us have very young and adorable daughters (mine is 4).

News of his death is saddening, but I know his soul was prepared. I am sadder for his daughter, Hinako. Being only two years old, she may not grow to have much of a memory of her father.

Breetai was a great RBer. A little hard on newbies at times (by his own admission) but so knowledgeable. He's the reason I have a PC Engine Duo-R. He will be missed.

Still, in a way, finding hard to believe he's really gone. :(
Hoping all is as well as can be expected with the rest of the family, and of course with little Hinako.

My wife and I were packing up part of my game collection a couple weeks ago and she asked why one of the boxes was wrapped up in tissue paper and off to the side. I honestly did not remember why it was like that or what it was, and after opening the paper, it was the box for the Coregrafx that Breetai sold me a couple years ago. It really took me back. It will be stored in a very safe place and has entered in to the realm of consoles I will never sell.

Still missing you buddy.

I am sorry that I am late to reply to this, but I am sadden to hear that Breetai had passed away. Not just a great retro gamer to follow, but also a great fellow hockey fan.

I miss you, and I do pray for your dear family.

I returned to the forums recently and just wanted to post here to pay my respects to Breetai. I got pretty emotional reading this topic... He will definitely be missed.

I've sent his parents a "Christmas E-mail" from all of us here. I'll post what his Mother responds with when she responds.

In short I mentioned how Blake is still in our thoughts, that we look forward to hear how his daughter is, and some general chit chat.

Super late and sorry for no updates. We have no idea how Hinako is doing, but we can only hope that she is well. She is living in Japan with her mother. She is now 5 years old. We have a trust fund in her name and hope to give it to her one day.

Blake's father died suddenly this past Monday. We are all deeply saddened by this. Our dad was also an exceptional man. It kind of feels like we're stuck in a time warp.

Blake would have been 35 on October 2nd. I played Chrono Trigger all day (with his emulator on his Wii). Last year was Lunar, and the year before Shining Force. A special friend of Blake's was given all his other video games to find homes for.
