Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

What Are Your Goals In Game Collecting?

Post by racketboy »

Do you have any goals (long term or short term) in building up your collection?

Adding more consoles?
Building up a certain console's library?
Collecting a certain genre?

Well, the way I collect, I just focus on certain systems, so I can build up on the games, so right now I am doing PS2 games, because they are a little more easier to find and there also cheap right now.

There are a few more consoles I'd like to add to my collection. The main one is a Jaguar. Then I'd like to get the CD add-ons for Jaguar and TG-16.

As far as games go, I'd like to get the complete collection of Japanese Virtual Boy games, but I know that will be extremely expensive.

I always would like to add consoles, but for games, add some of the classics I missed, and some games I traded in or sold that I want back.

Ah very easy to answer.......

Easy Goals....

To own every Nintendo based console/handheld with the exception of silly things, Like colors or an improved backlight. I will try to get both versions of the GBA, NDS, NES, SNES .....but silly things I wont bother with

Mild Goals....

To own the major franchises in entirety....Minus ports and clones

All Zelda Games
All Mario Games
All Castlevania Games
All Metroid Games
All Final Fantasy Games

Hard Goals....

To own every single USA Super Nintendo Title (as it was the best console ever!)

Yes it may sound like i am a fanboy of Nintendo 8)

In the short term I'm collecting saturn games that I sold and I would like a full set of Resident Evil games although the thing that really gets me excited is hardware are unusual peripherals.
I'm pretty new to this so at the minute I'm looking to fill my bedroom with a set of UK Sega hardware, after that I would like to get hold of some none Nintendo handhelds. Ultimately I would like an example of every console and a few definimg games on each of them, with the prioirity on the newer consoles that i'll actually spend more time playing

Some of those Zelda titles are awful. Mainly, the CD-i ones. I have a CD-i and found all 3 titles online (I actually own one but it's still factory sealed and I'm not about to open it). The games have awful gameplay with terrible controls.

However, Hotel Mario was an okay puzzle game.

If anyone out there hasn't played any of Nintendo's CD-i games, I recommend at least seeing them (youtube probably has clips.)

Going for a pretty long list of Gamecube titles (found NCAA Basketball complete and in awesome condition for $10 at gamestop couple days ago!). I think I am gonna focus on sealed ones for a bit. Looking for these mostly, but another 30ish more.

Pokemon Box
Goblin Commander
Skies of Arcadia Legends
Pure Evil Double Pack (0 + 1)

Also want to get one of my gamecubes modded for imports and get

Tower of Druaga (pre order baten kaitos)
Homeland
Dream Mix TV World Fighters
Nintendo Puzzle Collection
Mr. Driller Drill Land

Dream Tv for the cube is quite an elusive title.

Personally I go for games that I like, or like the concept of, unusual controllers, and swag. Ive got swag back to the Atari 7800 era up to my Nintendo Bobbleheads. The pride of the collection is probably the Gamecube Soul Calibur 2 Wallscroll - seven feet of beauty.

My goals are to get real physical original media of great games (BotB) so I can play them in their original form (if I've only emulated them).

Other than that, I have damn near every system that I want (NES, SNES, N64, GCN, Wii, GB, GB-P, GBASP, DSL, MS, GEN, SCD, SAT, DC, PS1, PS2, TG16, TDuo, TGExpress, NG-CD) but I do want to get a few more modern systems; an original Xbox for some games that I don't trust the 360's B/C to play well and eventually a 360 and PS3. I don't ever want to get a JAG, 3D0, or 32x even for sake of collecting.
And there are a few PSP games I want but can't justify the price of the system for 3 games.

I think the only system that I want but necessarily don't really need but want to collect would be a Neo-Geo home system as I've collected a fair number of carts cheaply (but y'know emulation for the NG is damn perfect).

Importantly, I want to start getting extra consoles (I already have extra SAT, GEN, NES) so in case one dies, I have at least 2~4 extras.

And as I'm living in Japan now, I thought about buying a Japanese NES and SNES as physically they look different (even though I have converters to play famicon games and I removed the tabs in my SNES for imports).

But hey, unlike some of the more gung-ho collectors, I have less than 100 titles per machine as time-wise, there's just too much to play and I really try just to stick with the best of the best.
