Such a step backwards.
Can't say I'm surprised, but I can't shake the feeling that this was based on the fact the democratic party didn't have enough people who had the balls to say "this isn't about the LTGBWXYZ community, this is about benefits and judgement".
Not to get political, it's just that I'm disappointed but not surprised as how NC voted.

Re: Amendment One is Passed in North Carolina
Well, shit. After all this effort towards civil rights in the last 50+ years, and we still have so many opponents. Luke's right in saying that politicians have lately been chickening out about LGBT issues, with one of the most recent examples being Obama caving to pressure from opponents of LGBT rights bills, contrary to his advertised political beliefs. *sigh* Looks like there's still an awfully long road ahead, folks.

Opposition to gay marriage is simply absurd. An amendment that restricts the right of private individuals to enter into a contractual agreement is disgusting and textbook authoritarianism.
Shit like this almost leaves me speechless, honestly. I forget that people can be so needlessly hateful and then something like this jolts me back to reality.

This is what gets my goat.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Opposition to gay marriage is simply absurd.
No offense BSD, and I hate talking politics because I'm not well informed enough (partly my fault), but you point something out that needs to be addressed.
This isn't only about Gay Marriage, it's about prejudgment. This changes benefits for heterosexuals as well.
"All men are created equal" my ass.
And not to say I haven't had some "discussions" with friends who were so over the top against Amendment 1 that they actually said "No NC, No Bill of Rights", which is bullshit, but rooting against amendment 1 seemed like common sense.
Re: Amendment One is Passed in North Carolina
thank god. Now the gays would be able to undermine real marriages.
Seriously I was under the impression that the glbt (guacamole lettuce bacon tomato. Shit now I'm hungry) community was huge in NC. I lived in Raleigh for a year and a half I swear every other person I met was gay.
Hmm my little sister still lives there I wonder what her and her girlfriend think.

The Metro areas are, but the rest of the state not so much. The rural vote far outweighs the more liberal NC cities unfortunately.flex wood wrote: thank god. Now the gays would be able to undermine real marriages.

Re: Amendment One is Passed in North Carolina
I could not agree more with Luke. My wife and I are both extremely disappointed - but not surprised - that the Amendment passed. We live in a very progressive part of Charlotte, North Carolina, and opposition to the amendment where we live was overwhelming. I also saw a lot of signs urging voters to vote down the amendment in rural parts of the state and probably got my hopes up a little too high. That said, the fact that people are even discussing these issues in North Carolina is a sign of progress, however, and I hope to see the amendment repealed within the decade.

Re: Amendment One is Passed in North Carolina
I was born in NC and will always consider it home. But this is fucked up. My home has in a way turned on me, and said that I am no longer a person.
