Philly retrogaming meetup
Philly retrogaming meetup
Some buddies and I are setting up a regular retrogaming meetup in Philadelphia and I'd like to cordially invite ALL OF YOU!
We don't have a set venue yet but once we get a good idea of how many people are coming and what they'll be bringing everything can be set in stone.
So are any of you in or around Philly and wanna throw down in some Street Fighter?

What part of Philly? I'm in South Jersey, and would be taking the PATCO route..
Looking forward to details, and Hell yeah on that Street Fighter Challenge..

For real when are you thinking about doing this? I live in Pittsburgh and would gladly miss a day of work/school for this.

You should make it a cheesesteaks and gaming party.

Re: Philly retrogaming meetup
The plans started literally about 2 hours ago so not much has materialized but I'll tell you what we have so far.
Right now my buddy Stephen and I are shopping around for venues. Since it'll be our first meeting we'd like it to be somewhere free/super cheap. We're inquiring at the Philadelphia library by the art museum, Brave New Worlds in Old City and Atomic City Comics on South st.
Right now I think Atomic City is our best bet. I know the guys there and they're all big retrogamers. Every time I enter the store we chat about games for a good half hour. Plus they have a bunch of arcade cabs in the store.
Food and hopefully booze will be around but since we're starting this out of the kindness of our hearts and don't have a lot of cash we'd like it to be BYOB or we can all get a pool going to get a shit-ton of pizzas.
Also BYOG. I'd like for the format to be people bring a bunch of systems, games, TVs, whatever.
Retro systems I own: 2 Dreamcasts, 2 Genesises, 1 SNES, 1 Master System, 1 PS2, 1 Gamecube, a RetroN 3 and some more. I'd also like to encourage handheld gaming at the meetups. If any of you have a Neo Geo Pocket Color I wanna throw down in some SNK vs Capcom.
Right now the biggest hurdle is the venue and TVs. If you have some easy to transport flatscreens or PC monitors that can be used for consoles bring em along!
I also want to set up tournaments. The more obscure a game is, the better. I definitely want to set up a tournie with Treasure's Yu Yu Hakusho game on the Genesis.
This WILL happen. It won't be one of my projects that I hype up then it goes nowhere. RacketBoy is a fantastic community and I hope we can rely on you guys a little bit to give us whatever help you can. I know Philly has some great retro gamers and I want us to have a place to chill out and play some games.
If you have any ideas for games, places, or would like to help us money-wise do not hesitate to post in this thread or contact me. We are gamers united.

You should follow the template provided by the whole thread about the TX meetup: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 15&t=22092
Again, key for me deciding is a question of when the meet would take place....
