I've put the new link down in my sig for anyone who might be interested. There's not much there at the moment, but I did edit and put up 6 write-ups and have another four scheduled so far.

Oh, and if you do happen by and see something that looks wonky, let me know. I'll try to fix it.

It looks good too. The same level of quality I expect from a Michi review. I like it!

Aw, thanks! I still need to put up a short 'About' page and do a more unique banner, but I like it so far, even if it's been a bit of a time consuming process to gather and properly organize all the pictures that go with each post.

Oh! And just to be clear, there will be some new stuff mixed in with the older posts. I've already got one scheduled. But I'll be sure to let everyone here know when the new stuff goes up :)

I haven't been around for the past week or so.

I took a week off from work so my brother and I could renovate my parents' kitchen. My brother gave my parents a sort of gift certificate to redo their dinning room as a thank you for helping him out with his wedding a year ago. That could have been done in a weekend, maybe 3 or 4 days tops. Well, that some how turned into remodeling their kitchen.

I worked on that kitchen from 4/20 to 4/28, excluding the 21st because of the holiday. From Monday the 22nd to Saturday the 28th, I worked 10-12 hours each day. Sunday the 29th, I only put in a half day so I could rest at least a little bit before having to go back to work. So I'm quite exhausted right now. The worst part is we couldn't even finish it! It's close to being done, but it sucks that we couldn't finish before I had to go back to work. Maybe we could have finished on time, but we hit a few road blocks. And worse, my back went out on Monday so I had to deal with that all week which really slowed me down.

The week prior I had (finally) started to eat better. But being as busy as I was last week with the kitchen, I ate like total shit. Almost every day last week I ate McDonald's for breakfast and then 10-12 hours later ate half a pizza for dinner then promptly passed out. So, obviously not great food choices, but also eating so heavily before going to sleep isn't good either. I probably would have gained a ton of weight if I wasn't so active for 10 hours each day. Also, I spent a fortune on all the takeout. But, we needed food that was quick and easy. So what are ya gonna do?

Right now, I feel like I can spend 2 days in bed.

It happens. Don't beat yourself up, you did right by helping your folks. Go eat a salad and relax a little.

Thanks, Ack.

I've actually created a nice little diet for myself. I don't like to use the word "diet" because in this day and age it's a more temporary thing that someone forces themselves to do. That's not what I'm doing. I use the diet as in the foods that I choose to eat. And more importantly, what I choose NOT to eat.

Like last week, it's too easy to be so busy that I back myself into a corner with meals. For years at work, I would wait to the point of being starving, then grab quick and easy food (ie: fast food or junk food) because of a lack of time and then stuff myself past the point of being full. So eating the WRONG foods aside, this eating schedule is all wrong.

So I got myself a mini fridge to keep in my office at work. The idea is to make sure I surround myself with good food choices, then I can snack little by little all day. I did this the week before I took off, and it felt great! Never being hungry, but also never being stuffed full (which is what always happens when you do takeout). The food that I keep around is mostly produce. Fruit, vegetables, and nuts.

And what's great is that I don't have to force myself into this "diet" because I love to eat this stuff. It's just not as accessible unless you prepare. You can't go through a drive thru and get some fresh produce. You have to shop in a super market or whatever, and stock up for the week. But making sure I have a stock of good food is essential, because I don't have to force myself to eat it. I'm not thinking, "Man, I wish I had donuts instead." If you put ready to eat fruit or vegetables in front of a group of people they will instinctively eat it. So that's all I'm doing.

I weighed 150-155 for most of my 20's. But over the past 3 or so years I shot up. I'm about 180 right now. I'd really like to lose a good 20 pounds. I'm not "dieting" to lose weight. I just want to feel better. I'm sick of eating crap and then feeling like crap. I know I'll lose the weight as side effect of eating better.

That’s a great approach, Ziggy. Temporary measures, such as a diet, don’t make you healthy. You really have to change your lifestyle, routine, etc. permanently. I did that a few years ago when I left my law firm job - I started exercising daily, I modified my diet to include more fresh produce and lean protein, I stopped working insane hours, etc. - and it has been great.

I try to eat well but sometimes life gets in the way of living, you end up at a restaurant with shit food, and you just gotta roll with it.

If my kids wanna go to Red Robin you better believe I take them and get a burger and fries. I don't feel guilty about it. It happens.

Don’t feel guilty! I enjoy burgers, candy, and nachos more than just about anyone, and I almost always gain a few pounds when I’m on vacation. It’s the day in, day out habits that make you healthy, and a treat every now and then isn’t going to hurt you.

I grew up being taught the traditional American food pyramid. Has anyone seen the so-called "Healthy Food Pyramid" and "Healthy Eating Plate"?

I'm surprised multivitamins are on there. Most doctors and nutrition researchers agree that it's very unnecessary if you're eating healthily. "Very expensive urine" I remember being something like the quote bandied about.
