Black metal is fantastic so long as there is no "screaming". Half the lyrics in those songs are repeated every verse with only a few words changed and they are usually all about the same thing. Technical sure, talented, easily. Hearing some man scream because he's been a little angst kid for most of his life? Hahah.... right.

I also do not agree with a lot of the content and what these bands stand for. It's like they have something to prove to everyone else of this world. The way I see it is these people are the fucked up individuals who haven't murdered/raped anyone yet. Well, I'm sure some have, maybe this helps them not do it as much. Snarling and growling does not equal music. It's noise much like the really shitty "music" some punk bands can produce.

The basis on which folks in here are dismissing an entire genre are for the most part centered around total misconceptions or are attacking some kind of exaggerated stereotype that isn't even representative of the genre as a whole. You for example weren't even attacking black metal, you were attacking a generic extreme metal stereotype. Yes my posts in here filled with condescending sarcasm, but the "criticisms" in this thread about the genre and the people who might enjoy it are just as condescending, if not moreso.
