Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Rom cleanup utility?

Post by Concept »

Does anyone know of any rom cleanup utilities to quickly delete console rom clone files? For example, quickly delete all roms except the ones from the US region [U] (all other regions [E], [J], etc. would be deleted).

I've been searching around for a while and I can't find any program that does that and I know I'm not the only one who needs this. I only want to have 1 copy of a game title to save hard drive space. There's no need for 6 different copies of the same title ;)

I just used a variety of F3 searches in Windows Explorer. For example, you can search for *(U)* and cut and paste those roms to a new folder. Also, do a quick check for identicle region roms, like (UE) or whatever. That's when the game is byte for byte identicle in both regions.

for whatever system you have (assuming its a non-cd based console), grab the latest version of goodtools athttp://www.allgoodthings.us. throw the files into your rom folder, make a shortcut to the .exe on your desktop, and add the -dir switch to it. this will filter your roms into their respective directories, and delete any you dont want.

/\ -- Yeah the GoodTools set is made to do this.

You download which version of Goodtools you want from http://www.allgoodthings.us... say GoodN64 and then I use GoodGUI as it makes things simpler. I use the Config to show it where the GoodN64 exe is and where the ROMS are kept, then I say MOVE and DIR ... and it moves all the roms in to their folders US, EURO, HACKS etc ... then I delete the Overdumps and Baddumps and have a perfect collection.

It’s takes a few goes to get use to it but once you do its great!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to let you know that I found a program to do exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to post it in case anyone else is looking for the same solution.

UnGoodMerge v1.1 (Beta)
This program allows you to select a folder that contains 7-Zip archives. It then goes through each one, performs optional filters to skip unwanted things such as bad dumps, allows the user to choose which files to use, extracts the chosen files, and optionally re-archives each one using either ZIP or JMA. This program makes it very convenient to convert a large amount of GoodMerged 7-Zip archives into formats that emulators can read.

I need something better than ungoodmerge. It still needs my input on over a hundred games for NES alone. It also doesn't seem to have any method of just filtering out everything besides USA roms.

I'm also noticing flaws in the goodmerged set of NES games at UG. It's missing some games I know exist, like TMNT Tournament Fighters USA. It's a real cart. I used to own it. Licensed and official.

Yea you're right, I was looking for the games Racketboy listed on the must have's for NES and there were a few not listed in the UG goodmerged golden torrent. I'd have to do some searching to find the games they were missing but I found most of them through different sites. I'm going to go back through my emu's soon and figure out which games I'm missing that I should have and ask if any of you have them. =)

The latest version only requires input on about twenty games if you enable strict prioritisation in the Regional Filtering tab, but you can customize it according to your preferences if you want to save time at the expense of being more risky. To filter out everything but (U) ROMs, in the "Regional Filtering" tab, check the "Exclusive" check box, clear the "Priority List" box, and insert (U) into it.
