sms

Post by alexkidd »

rmal, i was trying to complete a US sms collection when i was in college too, i sold them all unfortunately. I had Super Monaco GP and Golden Axe Warrior, those were I think my rarest US titles. Wonderboy III was my favorite SMS game and I had it for TG16 too. I think I had all the 3D games too. I had a powerbase, but mostly played them on the genesis converter for convenience.

rmal wrote:Well I've been a longtime ready of your blog racketboy, but your archiving old magazines has caused me to register on your forums. I'm 21 and a student at the University of Wisconsin majoring in computer programming and business, 1 more year and I'm done. I've been a huge fan of Sega since I was a wee lad and am currently trying to get the entire US Sega Master System collection. As it now stands I have 71 of the 115. I'm really into web develoment and am currently doing that working for the University, and I also have to do a bunch of database stuff with reports and the likes. I'm also into guitars but suck pretty royally at it but I just got into it and its pretty fun. That's pretty much it and I look forward to a delightful stay in the forums.

The 30-year old gamer

Post by crisis »

Well, I'm actually 29. Like many of you, I work in the technology industry. I currently reside in the metro Atlanta area with a beautiful wife of 11 months, 2 cats and a bunch of toys.

I've been fascinated with computing and gaming since about age 4. The first system I owned was an Atari 2600. In between then and now, the only US-released system I haven't owned is a Jaguar (though I'ved played it). In college, I began building up a sizable collection of classic video games, copiers and other grey-area gaming items. The fascination with hacking around started when I spent 12 hours inputting random Game Genie codes to affect the outcome of Super Mario Brothers. I had some great ones that I wrote down and shared with a bunch of friends.

Currently, I share a condition with Racketboy: I talk way more about games than I do play them. I tend to play in spurts, but I have a lot of hobbies, so I float between them

The current entertainment center setup is:
- XBox (v1.6 with Xecuter 3 CE, 300GB drive)
- PS2 slimline (w/Matrix Infinity chip)
- Dreamcast (four controllers, arcade stick, light gun, four Quantum Fighter pads - love these!)
- Sega Saturn (two-wire modchip, two original controllers, one Nights controller, two of these smaller, SNES-like controllers)
- Panasonic 30" WS HD tube television
- Other home entertainment devices (PC output to TV, DVD player, VCR); PSP, DS Lite (w/EZ Flash 4 and 1GB microSD)

All of this is connected in my office, so I can shut the door, wig out with some music and enjoy some gaming.

My other hobbies include collecting music, volunteering for a no-kill cat adoption/pet shelter, shortwave radio, gadgets of all kinds (particularly tablet PCs and ultraportable laptops), running, weight training, amateur photography, geneaology ... and finally ... sleeping.

Not to get on a sermon, but I had my last long and happy run with the Dreamcast. I play a decent amount of XBox and PS2, but the DC was a system that was great for that time of my life. I had a lot of folks around to compete against, and it was an easy way to spend a lot of hours. I suppose that if I had more time now, I'd be playing a lot more. I know that this has some influence over it.

I've been here for a minute, but I did not post an intro here. I look forward to continue talking to many of you as time goes on.

We used to come up with new Game Genie codes for SMB, too. Hey, what's up with that music thing in your sig? I've noticed it before. Our tastes definitely overlap. Do you have any of those old DJ Premier Crooklyn Cutz mixtapes? There's four of them, probably about 10 years old now. I used to have most of them, but they've been lost over the years and I've been on the hunt.

Yes! As a matter of fact, I have Volumes A-C and most of Volume D. I can't seem to find the rest of it. You want those?

I also have a few volumes of Primo instrumentals, and I have volumes A-W of Gangstarr Rarities. Some groups put those together over time.

Just drop me a PM, and we'll work it out.

Hi all,

Im from Dublin, Ireland

emm I have a GC, PS2, Saturn and DC, Dreamcast Arcade Stick and the Soul Calibur II multi stick

also a GBA-SP and PSP

My Saturn (which I just recently got) was actually modded by the seller to only output 60hz - so it makes stuff smaller on my crappy tv (ie i cant see the speedo in Sega Rally :s)

Ive got a loan of a PAL one though, but I must get a new TV and some JAP games (and a cart to be able to play JAP stuff etc (I aint too good with solder, and I dont know of anyone in my area who would mod a Saturn))

Im mainly a fighting fan, both 2d and 3d tbh

Obviously when I was young i was obsessed with SF II on the SNES (even though I never actually OWNED a console when I was young - just a PC)

Then one day i played Tekken 2 in the arcades and I quite liked that

but Tekken 3 was the game that really got me, and in fact it is pretty much the reason I bought a console in the first place - for Tekken Tag (which I see as an extension of Tekken 3) as up till then I was strictly a PC gamer :p

also the main reason I bought a DC was for Soul Calibur (and Sonic Adventure)

Ive always liked Sonic

I also like shoot em ups and FPS's (only on PC's though)

Ive signed up here cos it was the nicest site I could find to do with retro/console gaming, and ive spent weeks reading through all its tips for old consoles.
