Haha, I don't know if I'll map it myself. I may rely on other folks' maps, to save space on my living room table. The missus wouldn't appreciate me taking over everything like that.

But if you think I'm up for the original, then I'll give it a shot.

Depending on how you feel about spending money, you could snag Grid Cartographer to do your mapping. It's what I've used for all my mapping for games that didn't already have it in-game.

Playing Fallout for, probably the last time, in the original engine.
Fallout 1at2 offers many advantages, like being able to push NPCs, steal all items from a corpse (you won't have to move one item at a time), travel faster in the wordmap (with a motorcycle), and more.
This time, decided to make an unarmed build, that will eventually use energy weaponry, to obliterate the Master and his followers. I hope to find the destroyed saucer, in this playthrough (I want that alien blaster).

Well, I decided to enjoy some ARPG comfort food while dealing with the final weeks of wedding planning. I'm currently playing Heretic Kingdoms: The Inquisition, known outside of the US by the name Kult: Heretic Kingdoms. It's not a perfect game by any means, but it has some interesting ideas on how to build up a character through both stats and attunements. While the stats are limited to Melee, Range, Magic, and Speed, the attunements must be learned by specific training with gear, which will then unlock their ability permanently. You can then equip attunements, and so long as you continue to meet their requirements such as wearing certain kinds of armor or wielding a fast weapon of a specific element type, they'll give you their benefit.

The cool thing about these attunements is that as you get more, some of them combo together in nasty ways. For example: one gives a x3 critical rate with non-elemental weapons, one adds massive bleed damage anytime you get a critical with a heavy weapon, and one causes you to berserk when you crit and then keep getting critical hits until you run out of things to hit. Yes, I can be a walking meatgrinder. You know I'm a walking meatgrinder.

Currently playing Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magic Obscura for the first time. About... 15ish hours in? I've been mostly focusing on side quests but on my way to the Black Mountain Dwarf clan now.

It's a very solid RPG. I haven't played a western cRPG in a while so it scratches that itch. Honestly has a lot of flaws though. Combat lacks many options and the game as a whole is very clunky. Control feels sluggish and imprecise, UI isn't very clear at giving information and isn't pretty enough to make up for it. In game map could use some improving, some locations get markers telling you what's there and some locations don't, so it's annoyingly inconsistent.

But the writing is very good, quest design is good and seems to have enough options to make a variety of character builds viable.

The setting is well wrought but wasn't quite what I was expecting. My prior knowledge of the game led me to believe the world of Arcanum was going to be a heavily steampunk drenched world mixed with magic and fairy tales. The reality is that the setting (insofar of the locations I've been to) is just typical Dungeons and Dragons style fantasy but some towns have a steam engine to provide electricity and some people fight with guns and there's one steam powered train that connects three of the towns. I wish it did more to bring out the steampunk aesthetic and make the game feel more unique.

Over all it's a fun and solid game, but I can see a lot that could have been improved. Currently undecided if I'll manage to finish it when there's so much else on my plate waiting to be played. But I do want to at least stick out a bit longer to see where the story is going, I've heard it's very good.
I feel old when talking to anyone my age yet too inexperienced to effectively talk to anyone older. Life is grand that way.

Honestly, I don't even remember the story to that game. So I guess it was reasonably forgettable. It certainly doesn't do anything world shattering in the fantasy genre in that respect. I consider the game to be one of the biggest missed opportunities of its generation. Troika was really bad at scoping their work, and it shows in Arcanum. I would love to see someone revisit the IP with a more modern development process.

Well, after some comfort food gaming, I've finally started up my run in Might & Magic: Book 1. I'll post greater details about my experiences in the Progress Report thread, but so far things have been...slow to start. Still, I'm enjoying myself; this is still the Might & Magic titles that I know and love, even if they're a little rough around the edges.

It's definitely a bit slow to start, but that's endemic of every first person RPG of the era. It's got the easiest start of the big three (Wizardry, Bard's Tale, M&M).

Yeah, I expected it would be a learning curve, though it's mainly coming in gearing up early on. there are some tricks I could engage in, such as generating new characters, plundering their starting food, and then deleting them, but things haven't gotten that desperate yet. I'll explain more in the other thread.
