Take a break from The 7th Saga - Ys VIII is coming

Summer 2016 in Japan. North American localization is inevitable.
On glorious Vita and some other system called "PS4."
I'm cautiously optimistic. I enjoyed
Seven and
Celceta quite a bit, though they still couldn't hold a candle to
I & II or
Dawn of Ys. Curious to see if Falcom goes back to their action-RPG roots or drifts closer to finally making a "AAA" type
Ys game.
Bring the hype.

It's by Falcom so you know it's good!
Could be my Vita's sweet swan song and I'm okay with that.

It looks solid. I dig the character designs.

FYI...Hardcore Gaming 101 released a book listing, in the site's opinion, the 200 greatest games. An Ys game made the list..but it's Oath in Felghana...

Looks amazing. I'm happy that JRPG's seem to be making their way back to consoles.

Yeah, I looked at that list a while back. It's not something I'd call... definitive. But we all have our own opinions and whatever.
For those who want to see it:

I love
Oath in Felghana, but that's a rather bizarre pick.
For starters (and I bet Exhuminator will attest to this as well),
Ys Origin uses the same engine and is superior in every possible way.
Additionally,
Ys Book I & II and
Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys are also better games (in my opinion) - not to mention the fact that
Ys Book & II is probably the most "defining" game of the series.
Felghana is probably like the 4th or 5th best
Ys game, I'll concede that much.
Overall, that top 200 list is....... interesting. It seems oddly lacking in second gen games, as there are several HG101 writers who really seem to prefer that era.
I think I should write a book about my top 200 games - everything would be ancient and 75% RPGs!

Reasons to not play Ys Origin:You hate yourself.
You hate awesome games.
You think "Ys" is pronounced "whyz".If none of those reasons fit you, then you have no excuse not to play the best post 16-bit era action-RPG ever made.
Ys Origin shits all over Felghana, go home HG101 you're drunk.

I don't want to derail the thread, but it really is an interesting list. The game selection criteria is really strange, and it is worth reading. (Basically, games from the same series are generally rolled into one entry (i.e., a Super Mario Bros. 3 stands in for all 2D Mario Bros. games).). It also includes some odd choices, and put some games on the map for me. (Steins; Gate? Huh?)
