Did you grab a Retron 5 yet, CFFJR? I highly recommend Terranigma/Tenchi Sōzō. I suppose you could also get a repro cart for the NTSC SNES.

No Retron 5 yet, unfortunately. I want one, but I've been holding out for that mythical Game Gear attachment. Though I'm probably gonna pull the trigger sooner so I can patch and play Sorcerian, among other things.

I do have a copy of Terranigma though! It is indeed a repro that I picked up from another member sometime last year.

I didn't know Sorcerian had a translation patch! All the more reason for me to get the Mega Drive version.

Definitely! :D Fair warning though, author says its incomplete, and I'm not sure to what degree.

It does the menus and such though, enough so that you can get through the game according to some forum posts on sega 16.

Here's a link to the more current version:

Okay, "good" could be a bit of a misnomer, but I also have a soft spot in my heart for the character designs from the original Gensou Suikoden--

Made to the least favorite part of the game for me, the Undersea Palace/Mu.

Played some more over the last couple of days. Just beat the Sand Fanger at the Great Wall.

Wrote some cumulative thoughts in my blog. I'd copy/paste the text here, but it'd read pretty awkward as a forum post. If that makes sense. Hope y'all are enjoying the game.

Nice review bonesy. I read through the Soul Blazer article too.

I finally beat game as well on Christmas. In a strange twist, I actually rather enjoyed the linearity of it. It makes the game feel brisk, despite the other incoherent bits that slow things down. I feel like I would have grown bored if there had been a real over world. I get the sense it wouldn't have been much of a focus if it were there, and may have ended up more tedious to traverse than interesting.

Of course, the map travel bits are in turn a pretty unnecessary transition, but I wasn't bothered by them.

I could have down without some of the more stupid dialogue, and Will's doofus pals from the first town serve no useful purpose and the game would have been better off without them.

Really though, the dungeons are the star of this show, and I had a lot fun plowing through them all. Combat was fun, Freedan and Shadow were cool, bosses were (mostly) entertaining, nice visuals, decent music (I liked the final boss theme in particular), and it was a good time overall.

I'm glad we played this one.

So how would you say it stacks up against The 7th Saga?

Finished up the Mountain Temple last night, which is another area I'm not too fond of.
