It does look intriguing, but being someone not fluent in Japanese I'm not getting too excited.

I'm sure it will be localized eventually.

I am not so sure. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but do you know how many Falcom PSP and Vita games we've never got in English? I'll show you a few, just because they have nice artwork!
PSP:
Vita:
With an unlocalized track record like that, I can't help but not get my hopes up you see.
That said, I am 100% certain we will see Ys 8 in English.

I'm optimistic about this game only because I have some (very occasional and very light) communication with XSEED folks.
I do know all about the unlocalized PSP and Vita games. I'd like to track them all down eventually.
Legend of Heroes never picked up steam in the US. The Bandai-published ones were rushed and poorly translated and barely had any marketing. TitS didn't sell nearly as well as XSEED likely anticipated which is why the rest of the trilogy was never localized on PSP. As for Brandish, I don't think that was a huge smash to begin with on SNES.
That said, if this game goes without localization I will likely end up importing it. If it's on Vita that is.
I wonder how well this will connect to past Xanadu games, or the Dragon Slayer series. Too bad they aren't calling it Dragon Slayer IX: Tokyo Xanadu.
