I am most interested in MM IX and MM X, anybody got any experience with those around here? Are they any good?

I've played a little bit of X. It seems to be a bit of a hybrid between 3-5 and the later entries. The game is grid based and combat is turn based; I honestly can't remember if you could see monsters walking around or not. Character development pulls from the 6 and up era, where characters have skill points they can put into different paths, like a weapon or a spell school. The setting is in the Ubisoft setting, so there's no sci fi aspects. From the amount I played it seemed reasonably good, but I also shelved it and decided to make my way through the rest of the series that I'm interested in first.

I don't think Might & Magic IX was particularly well-received. I think it was basically the end of the series until M&M X brought it back, and that game, as MrPopo notes, intentionally goes back to the older style in many ways. I think it's the only one in the series I don't currently own, though.

No one likes IX, no one. MM6-MM7 are where it's at.

It seems that when a classic CRPG series hits 9 it tanks. That's why I'm glad Wizardry stopped with 8.

Hey guys, I've been continuing on in Might & Magic 5, but unfortunately due to my schedule, I've not been able to do the usual write ups. I'm wrapping up my work for the year as I'll be leaving Thursday, December 14, for a wedding in England and then Christmas in Scotland. I don't know if I'll be playing many games while I'm out, and I've been swamped trying to get as much done at work as I possibly can so I'm not in a bad spot when I go back on January 2.

In the meantime, more of you guys need to play Might & Magic games. Or just good old-fashioned western CRPG dungeon crawlers.

Sweet, that's an awesome trip to take! Have you been to Scotland before? I got to spend a weekend in Edinburgh, it was awesome. I don't know if I've ever went somewhere and felt like I was "home" without actually being home. It makes you wonder if some of that gets passed down in DNA, or if I'm just crazy.

Scotland is the land of my people. Sadly I can't go there like Ack (Congrats!) but Scotland is brought home to me with the Xenoblade 2 accents. I'm level 46 and in chapter 5. Like any game with Chapters..I greatly fear progress so I do a bunch of side stuff and grind out levels even if it's not needed. Indor has some of the prettiest and most calming music with the Celtic choir singing. This game really is great so far with some flaws (field skills and navigation esp no real map...ugh) and I can't stop being blown away something this huge and epic is on a tablet and a tiny cartridge smaller than a DS/3DS cart.I've blade a few great 2017 released RPGs and I'm debating if this is the best one. Nier and Persona make a very strong case.

Why can't it be both? I'd love to get out that way. I have a friend out there who might be willing to show me around. Maybe we can convince Ack to take us with him?
