I did 100% for Xenoblade 2 Torna... only took 40 hours.

Not short, but the main games probably take like 200 hours to 100% which I'd never do and yeah, anything beyond 50-70 and my threshold breaks.

This is an RPG progress report thread right? Did I walk into a tavern or something...

RPG's can be very, very time consuming, even if you don't go for 100%. Western ones probably even more, there are people who have spend thousands of hours on games like Diablo.

I was playing an MMORPG for 9 years (Final Fantasy XI) so these time-frames of 200-hours, 300-hours are nothing. You could have spend entire months grinding with other people and waiting in line for a single drop (though I personally didn't have to deal with much of that) most single player JRPG's can be easily completed in the span of 300 hours or so. Though some like Dragon Quest XI can take longer than that.

Besides, is not like I can stomach grinding on hours on end in most games anyway, I stagger these things over long periods of time, sometimes years, I just stay consistent and get things done, eventually...

Speaking of which, I got 'the freeze' accolade last night, and I can finally move on to obtain the last three (four if you count the final one you get for getting the rest) remaining accolades.

One is for witnessing all the Pep Powers and the other two is for using Herb items. Guess I didn't use that many healing items throughout the game.

I figured I combined those two with some preliminary Seed farming so I went to farm some Strength Seeds. I thought Seeds counted as herb items because I got one of the earlier accolades in this series while I was farming Pretty Betsy's much earlier in the game, which is pretty much the seed equivalent for Charm... Well 50 Seeds later and it looks like normal seeds don't count, so I'll go farm Pretty Betsy's again instead.

This shouldn't be too time consuming, I already started a checklist and counting down all the Pep Powers, as long as I target Seed dropping monsters this should be efficient.

Congrats! That's casino stuff, right? Have you played the SNES version of DQ VI before? Oh my god, what a putrid casino that game has. On a related note, but not entirely related to RPGs, I've been working on getting a big payout at the slot houses in Shenmue--very intermittently--for probably almost two years now. By Jove, some day that machine is going to give me diagonal triple red-sevens.

Have you been using the fortune teller to find your lucky number? Makes it much easier I feel.

No, XI was my first for the series. And that's mostly because we didn't get the series over in Europe until VIII, which I did end up buying near release actually, but the seller sent me a Platinum (Greatest Hits for Americans) re-release instead of the original and I promptly gave it to a friend, since by that point, I had already decided to collect only original releases.

I got sidetracked and didn't order it again. I would get a copy of VIII right now if I could, but my PS2's are busted and not much point just having it sitting there.

Though I'll try to take it light with JRPG's next year because I've overdone it this year and I still got a lot of open projects anyway, however whenever I fix my PS2 situation, Dragon Quest VIII is at the top of my wanted list.

That's good to hear. VIII was a really fantastic game. If you like playing things to completion, it's a pretty massive game for that, too. I think I had about 111 hours clocked on my save file, and never actually finished all the end-game fights. I know I did enough to get the change of clothes for the hero, at least, but I don't know how many more fights I had left against the super boss.

Sadly, you could safely skip VI in any form, unless you felt like you absolutely had to play every DQ game.

I do plan to play all DQ games eventually and most of the spin offs, but if I had to pick an order I'd pick VIII first and VII second, IX is also pretty accessible.

I played XI a little more than I'd like today, farming Pretty Betsy's got inefficient the moment I had to move Erik to the bench because all of the Pep Powers that involved him were done.

I ended up sticking around and doing all the Pep Powers with everybody, so now I have one Accolade left to get.

I should be 20-30 Pretty Betsy's away from doing that, though I could just use cheap healing items from the shop for the same effect, I like to do things the hard way it seems...

After that I got to go around every place and make sure I opened every treasure and broke every pot, a bit tedious but I have to make sure I got everything, Noah's Archives at least help.

Then after that I should be set for long time Seed farming, though in reality I plan to take a break from DQXI for a little while. Loved the game, went crazy for it for a month, but I ended up burning out and I want to hopefully play Shenmue again at Christmas, plus as soon as I get the official guide (for treasure maps) for Octopath Traveler I'll be going back to that.

But once everything is set up, I'll go in and out throughout the next year and I'll probably be done by 2020...

DQ IV on DS is actually quite an easy little series entry to slip into. It's not too long and gets right to the point.

Playing an RPG series out-of-order is a soy move. Slap on that jock and pop in that first NES game.

In a perfect world I'd agree with you, but this isn't a perfect world and my personal situation is far from perfect on top of that.

By the way, what I meant with 'accessibility' when it comes to IX, is that is easy and cheap to get and I unlike VIII which I can't play for technical reasons, I can pop it into my 3DS and get going.

And given that I went headfirst into 6x Draconian in XI, I have no problem with how 'accessible' the games are otherwise, since I may be inexperienced with the series, but very experienced with JRPG's in general.

As such, the NES and SNES games are the least accessible to me right now, since neither system is RGB modded (a requirement for me these days) nor do I have a way to transfer the saves from cart to PC for back-up (no way I'm losing those 100% playthroughs) plus other nuances like price/availability/condition and potential internal battery change for those games.
