Pier Solar
Re: Pier Solar
Well, as 16 bit RPGs are my weakness I went ahead and ordered a 2nd run re-print for $45. Can't wait! I'd be nice to have a first edition but at least the second run gets a plastic game case.
If anyone is willing to part with their first edition for a reasonable price x<$100 or up for trades, let me know.
I assume you all saw the contest about the Nomad they're giving away for shooting photos of how you use the stickers? Get to work on that!

From what I hear it can be dumped into a rom but their technique for allowing a 64mb cartridge is unique so no emulator is accurate enough to support it, no emulator creator wants to be known as "The guy who pirated that indie game", and only their custom design can support the game (so no dumping the rom into a donar cart).
I was watching a guy stream the game and it looked painful. RPGs are painful to watch but the dude was grinding for several hours and died multiple times. There's also a weird save bug where you have to exit the screen in order for the save to register.

Re: Pier Solar
My NTSC-J Mega Drive copy is on the way. I'm happy that it is 100% region free, so it will work in a Genesis. The CD part is just a soundtrack, so it is not region coded for the Sega Mega CD. I couldn't decide between the Genesis or Mega Drive version. After thinking about it for a few weeks ( ), I decided on a Japanese MD version. I'm not sure if I'm getting the original or the re-print. I suspect the original.
Exactly. Guys like Steve Snake (KEGA) have stated that they will never allow this game to work on his emulator. No current Genesis emulator is capable of running it, and I sincerely hope it remains like that (and that it gets released on PSN so I can play it on my PSP!).

I guess I had it backwards...
As for the save bug, it's mentioned in the manual so I guess it's not a bug but it is confusing. I asked on their forum for further clarification whether I should save before or after moving to a new screen/section of the map.
I do have to say that I am loving this game and will post more after playing more.

I was watching that stream too. It was frustrating because I couldn't comment at all to try and help because firefox would crash. I beat that part he was playing without grinding and on my very first time through that area. I honestly had more trouble with the dungeon maze before it than I did with the bosses.
I have actually already beat the game, and only once at the beginning was I purposely grinding levels. In retrospect I wish I would have grinded a little more for $$$ at some of the towns before I moved on, because they had some cool items that I missed.
ALWAYS have tons of healing items in your inventory. TONS
LEARN & MASTER Pier Solar's "gather" mechanic in battles. Gather will make all your attacks, magic, and healing magic much MUCH stronger.
When fighting a boss HEAL yourself OFTEN even if you think you don't need to yet.
The save thing. It's not a bug. That's actually how they designed it to be. In Phantasy Star III (a game I was playing in December) you could only save at INNs! ONLY INNS! Pier Solar easily could've been a game where you could only save at save points, but it's not.
You can save ALMOST anytime and anywhere you want in Pier Solar, it just has a few restrictions. But since it is different it CAN be confusing if you don't understand it. Since it is confusing to many people it should probably be dropped if they ever make another game.

Save just after a new screen or map loads.

Steve Snake is actually in Pier Solar's credits and seemed to help program something in the game.
