PS2 Street Fighter Arcade Stick to Dreamcast Questions

Post by Guinness »

Hey! Been coming to RacketBoy for awhile but I'm new to the forums, so first I wanna say Hello, and very cool community here. Now then, I have been building up my Dreamcast collection, getting into imports and I have a few questions about the PS2 to Dreamcast adapters and various controllers I want to use with it.

First, my fighters, I have a friend willing to part with a 15th Anniversary Street Fighter Arcade Stick by Capcom

Will this work with my 2D and 3D fighter collections OK?

Second, as for importing, I am wanting to pick up DDR 2nd and Club Mix. I already have a Cobalt Flux Dance Pad

Will this work with the Dreamcast DDR games?

Third, while I'm a fan of Bemani, I have yet to try Pop 'N Music. I see there was a few releases for Dreamcast in Japan, The controller however can be hard to come by. So will a generic Playstation like this one get me by until I find a official Konami Dreamcast one?

Lastly, Which is the best PS2 Controller to Dreamcast adapter out there?

Thanks

Guinness.

In theory, both should work ok. It can be a bit of a hit and miss situation, specially the analogue output. The best results i've got is from a cheap one from china called "Innovation Converter" It can take psx, saturn and keyboard input, I find the saturn pad is excellent for fighters. Ive got a more expensive one which i think is a total control? Not recomended, some games crash. I also have a psx/pc DDR pad and that works just fine. That SF spec edition Controller is totally rad, Grab a convertor

Well I got the Street Fighter 15th Anniversary Arcade Stick today. As well as using it on the Dreamcast, I was thinking of using it on MAME, but to my disappointment my PS2 to usb adapter would not recognize it well, and the stick went all crazy. Now I'm not so sure I'll get it to run with the Dreamcast now either.

This is the PS2 to usb adapter I'm using now.

I've never had a problem with it before, and it still works with a Dual Shock, and it even works with my Cobalt Flux on Stepmania, so it must be the arcade stick. (which works fine in the PS2 itself)

As for the PS2 to Dreamcast adapter, this is the one I was going to get.

It's made by the same company as the PS2 to usb I have so I don't know.

To anyone who has a Street Fighter 15th Anniversary Arcade Stick, whats a good adapter to get it working with MAME? And is there any adapter out there I can count on it working with Dreamcast fighters as well?

it works fine with both my adaptors:

"EMS Total Control" PS2 - DC

"Super Dual Box" PS2 -USB (Mame)

Super Dual Box seems to work fairly well for Mac OSX specifically. Less reliant on drivers. Should work well for the DDR stuff as well, I have a cheesy pad and its ok.

So I got both my adapters today. The PS2 to USB adapter, the Super Dual Box Pro works with the Street Fighter 15th Anniversary Arcade Stick on MAME, which I am happy to see.

However, the PS2 to Dreamcast adapter, Total Control Plus, does not recognize the Arcade Stick. I get no input from it. It will detect a Dual Shock just fine. Can anyone confirm they have successfully got a Street Fighter 15th Anniversary Arcade Stick to work on Dreamcast?

Thanks

I'm not sure, but I've got a Total Control 2, works perfect with the DDR pad. Also, if you want a great game thats exactly like DDR, but better and cheaper try this http://www.goatstore.com/info.php?id=372001 It's only $15, and it has a great unlock system and is very challenging.

Hey! Thanks for the game, I didn't know there was a homebrew DDR on Dreamcast. I went to the official site and got the demo. It is very challenging, more so then DDR, it's more on the level of In The Groove. Because you are battling it's constantly changing your speed modifiers and vision, pretty crazy. Very recommended to fans of DDR or dance games. One question for Nick, I see there is a disk swap option that lets you swap out the game disk and play to your own music. Have you ever done this? I looked at their site and It seems complicated. Anyways I'll be buying a copy of Feet of Fury soon!

I can confirm that the Total Control Plus works with my Cobalt Flux Dance Pad. Hell it even recognizes my Beatmania IIDX controller, and I can use it with Pop 'N Music. The button layout is off, but with a little tinkering and finding out which key is triggering which button, I'll be able to config it for 7 button mode I'm sure.

So all thats left is my Street Fighter stick, I see where the Total Control works with the Hori Real Arcade Pro, as well as the Namco fighter sticks, but so far no confirmation that it'll work with the Street Fighter stick. I don't see why it wouldn't. Someone let me know if they have gotten the Street Fighter stick to work on Dreamcast with this or another adapter.

Thanks

The Total Control I have works with the Street Fighter stick but I found a problem. It does however recognize it with no problem and all buttons that SHOULD work do. Are you using the little gray box that says "EMS" on it? Thats the version of Total Control 2 I have.

However, Nubytech screwed us and here's how. You CANNOT assign anything to the button fierce kick should be on. The pad is laid out like this :

Top row _ X - O - L1 - R1 - L1

Bottom _ Square - Triangle - L2 - R2

Because Dreamcast never had L2 or R2 it is impossible to create a proper 6 button config. The cool little Street Fighter 15th pads got it right. They work just fine and I probably remember using them more often on DC.

Top _ X - O - L1
Bottom _ Square - Triangle - R1

So there ya go, it can never work on DC. Damn sorry, I just knew it would recognize.
