PSG Usage in Genesis Music Documentation

by PresidentLeever Wed Feb 12, 2020 2:09 pm

The Mega Drive/Genesis could use both an FM (YM2612) and a PSG (SN76489) chip for sfx and music in games. This guide documents which games use PSG for music with some brief notes on each game and will be mostly finished within a week or two; there's about 600 more games to check besides the more recent homebrew games. Then there are the MCD and 32X games that use it. Some (well, probably 100+) games don't have a vgm file rip nor a sound test so they can't be tested fully atm.

By "dry" I mean there's a general lack of echo/reverb and sometimes chorus effects used.

So this is basically finished besides a few betas and the addon games that use it.

Prominent PSG use: 348
PSG sample playback use: 9
Partial PSG use: 95
No PSG use: 543
