Not sure how many of you follow the online scene of the DC, but it seems like 2016 is the best year yet for Dreamcast online play. It wasn't too long ago that we only had a small amount of games still online, but new developments have allowed many more games to come online!

Here are games that are currently online, with some at the bottom that are on their way, I am excited for Alien Front Online personally. All of these can be played with dialup, and using the dreampi setup is the easiest option.

This is a great page Jay-Red. I hadn't realized that several more of these games have gotten online. Right on.

Still no Propeller Arena. But AFO is surprisingly awesome. I need to get the parts for a Dreampi, since the last parts I ordered were lost in the post.

excellent link, bookmarked! i know Pi's the easiest way, but again, some of that looks a bit tricky/pricier than i'd hoped. still looking to join up sometime!

Getting dreampi setup is actually very easy! The only things you really need to buy are the raspberry pi (I think I paid 35 bucks for mine on ebay) and the proper 56k modem (I had to buy 2 because the first I got claimed it would work with linux but didnt, once I got a known good model it was only around 12 bucks) Everything else you probably have kicking around the house (network cables, phone cable)

Once you load the software onto the sd card and insert it into the pi, it is all automated and will connect with no issue after configuring your DC with a web browser disc.

EDIT: I forgot about the line voltage inducer, which is probably the part that is sounding tricky, and honestly, if you have any soldering skills and can follow the diagram you will be just fine. I believe the person that runs the site I linked is going to sell pre made line voltage inducers also, hell, I would have no problem making one for you if you needed.

Dialup? People still use that? Is there a way to make it work with Ethernet?

You dial-up from the Dreamcast to the Pi, then the Pi goes online via Ethernet.

You must not be too familiar with the Dreamcast, it had a built in 56k modem, so all of the online games supported it since most people didnt have broadband back then. There was a broadband adapter released later, but only 2 games support it now. If you want to keep playing the current crop of online Dreamcast games, you either need to: a) have a legit dial up service and connect with a phone line, or b) Use a raspberry pi micro computer to load the software "dreampi" to trick the dreamcast into thinking its dialing up over your standard broadband connection. There were other methods to getting dialup to work over broadband, but they have been rendered obsolete thanks to dreampi, which is the cheapest and easiest way to get up and running.

very much that part, yeah - i'm afraid i possess no such skills. how much would something like that run, parts & the trouble of it? i'd appreciate it man, beyond that the acquiring a Pi part sounds easy enough!

How much does a complete (game, case, mic, outer box, etc) copy of Alien Front Online go for?
