Possible Fake copies of Alisia Dragoon being sold?

Post by Soldier Blue »

I just bought this from ebay and after buying I noticed the seller has sold this exact label multiple times for the same price. I've owned Alisia before and the Label looks nothing like what a NTSC label or PAL should look like. Any thoughts? And sorry if this is in the wrong sub-forum.

Some of the other stuff this seller has sold is VERY sketchy. I guess maybe he is just selling repros (or japanese version), but he doesn't mention that in his listings that I'm questioning .

The text at the bottom of the label looks wrong. I looked at a few of the seller's other items.

Lots of little problems. MegaDrive games in Genesis shells, but with MD labels.

And then there's this:

I'm pretty sure that this game was never released on Genesis in North America, only in Brazil.

You were right to be suspicious. Something is not quite on the level here. I would guess that all this sellers games are reproductions.

In the past week or two all of a sudden I've noticed obvious fakes of Genesis games posted semi-frequently on eBay, and none of them had "repro" mentioned even in the fine print. Splatterhouse 3 was one of the more recent ones, and I believe Bloodlines as well. The labels were wrong (printed too large so the "Genesis" along the left hand side would run over to the top label) or there was a blatant notch on the side of the cartridge denoting an imitation.

I hope this isn't a trend. The only good thing is that prices are so crazy right now that you're automatically suspicious when something shows up for 2/3 of the usual going rate.

Sadly fake cartridges for a variety of systems have been an ongoing problem on eBay and Amazon for many many years. As of late the issue seems to have escalated though, probably due to even cheaper pirate manufacturing and an elevated interested in retro game collecting.

That is 100% not a legitimate NTSC-U/JP or PAL Alisia Dragoon cartridge. You'll want to be cancelling that purchase, and getting a refund.

Do you know of a good resource for Cart Pics so we can compare if a game is legit or not?

It's a blatant knock off.

Ye-old notch of Sega piracy is present. They tried to be clever and tilt the game so it's less noticeable but it's still there.

JP vs US/EU cartridge comparisons:

JP games have that notch on the left because the JP Mega Drive has a lock that holds the cartridges in when it's turned on. This isn't present in other versions of the console. If you ever see a flat US/European style cartridge with a notch in it, it's a bootleg.

Someone recently created a 3D printable model of the Sega Genesis cartridge shell (with the notch on the side) and shared it online. Now anyone with a 3D printer can produce a bootleg genesis cartridge shell.

This dude has some SNES repos, but at least he labels them as such.

http://www.ebay.com/usr/hotrodmaster?_t ... 7675.l2559

All repos

Harvest Moon
Aero Fighters
Hagane
Metal Warriors
Castlevania Dracula X
Mega Man 7

Actually i wouldnt mind having them, but even the repo price is too much.
