Sega CD Ultra CD Backup RAM Cart

by KoLAddict Sun Feb 16, 2014 9:20 am

Has anyone used one of these? They're for sale on EBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-CD-Ultra-C ... 35d1196a00

and on this website:

http://www.stoneagegamer.com/ultra-cd-b ... -cart.html

I really need a Backup RAM cart, and for all intents and purposes, this is the same or cheaper than most of the official ones.

If anyone has one, does it work fine, and is the internal battery easy to replace if necessary?

Can't tell you anything about this Ultra, but I have an official one for sale in my thread for cheaper...

Those listings say it doesn't work with the 32X. The official Sega cart does work with the 32X.

My official Sega one would corrupt saves sometimes. Maybe it was only mine...

Can't hurt this one is 20 years newer lol.

Yeah, i was totally keeping an eye on these until i read a review that said they're apparently quite difficult to remove from the cart slot? which is a huge bummer, guess i'm back to looking for a regular one for $20 or so before finally playing Shining Force CD.

Also, I wonder if you can save directly to it?

The AR on the Saturn, you have to save to the system & then move it to the AR for storage - even on games that can save directly to the official SS RAM backup.

Would be a pain to move saves back & forth from system to cart, and vice versa.... believe me, I had to before when my SCD internal save batt died.

yeah, i ended up going with an OG RAM cart after reading about the trouble getting these in & out...less space but honestly, even with all the Sega-CD gaming i do, i think i'll have enough room between the cart & system memory.
