I tried 4:3 and even the dot for dot mode already, but I still got the lines on my LCD tv and my LCD monitor. I just tried it on on my roommates 17 inch CRT monitor and there were any lines at all. I wonder if there's any chance the other VGA adapter would work any better on my LCD...

LCD's are a real fickle bunch. I know for a fact Racket's VGA Box works flawlessly with my NEC LCD monitor and is made pretty soundly. Lot's of cheaper boxes lack the proper amplification for anything other than a CRT which would take the weak signal and fix it as best it could before display. This results in the jailbar lines you see on screen.

Unfortunately all monitors are different so it mostly depends on it's VGA encoder and how well it handles low res signals after they've left the box in the end.

ModMan, that makes me think that it may be the adapter. This is the second one I got from racketboy - the first one's color got messed up from my son yanking on it so I bought a new one from him again. This new one is hooked up to the same TV but has lines since day one and the old one didn't. Interesting...

The eBay seller I bought the adapter from agreed to give me a refund because of the issue I am having with the vertical lines. I'm just wondering if I would have any better results with one of these adapters http://www.racketboy.com/store/featured ... e-box.html rather than the one I bought which looks exactly like this one http://www.racketboy.com/store/featured ... eo-av.html except mine has a different sticker on it.

Not a good move, you lose the option of switching over to S-Video/Composite for games that don't work in VGA. I can't see why any VGA adaptor box is better then any others, unless a fluke of a bad one. I really think its the LCD, the test you did on the CRT computer monitor confirms this.

I was thinking it may have been a faulty adapter or this version I bought just sucks. I have heard other complaints about the model I got. I'm not too worried about having the rca out anyway cause all of my games support vga.

All 3 sucked donkeyballs. Two are already broken, and the one my friend bought still works, but sometimes you have to shake it a few times and/or push/pull the cable near the middle piece before you get a decent image, so I don't expect it to last very long either.

And here I was hoping the square boxes were better because they look more like the official ones. Guess both suck quality wise then. I wonder if the official ones have this problem though...

Oh well, got one with built in VGA anyway, so no worries I guess... :P
Strange that you have a bad run. I have pretty good luck with the VGA box, though mine is an aftermarket Naki. I am running this through a more forgiving VGA CRT monitor that supports the 640x480 resolution easily. Maybe a chance the connection at the DC console is needs cleaning? Make and model of your monitor?
