I just got this sega genesis console with 2 wireless remotes and 80 games built in from atgames. I paid 30.00 for the thing and It has pretty much eevery genesis game that The ultimate sega genesis game has from xbox360 and ps3. 40 genesis games and 40 bootleg games.
Now I just played this thing and while it's cool to have some great gems on this for 30.00 especially since you have streets of rage 1,2, and 3 and streets of rage 3 is usually 20.00 alone.
Now here is my only problem. The audio is very high pitched and awful. No stereo sound and only mono. The other cool thing though is you can play actual genesis games on this thing.
here a pic of this and a listing on ebay:

Does anyone else have this? And what are your thoughts? Thanks

It's a Genesis Firecore unit by Atgames. I have one under this moniker. Mine came with 25 preloaded games, wired controllers. It also supports any region Megadrive carts as well as a switch for PAL TV compatability. Its essantially the same thing your displaying here. Its an ok unit given its size and decent feature. But I would still perfer and recommend original hardware. The sound this thing outputs is SHIT!

Genesis sound emulation is always a bitch. Even the official emulator on Dreamcast is pretty bad with sound.

Cd ages you are soo right. This thing almost ruins the sega games.
I am going to try to play with my tv sound. If that don't work I always have my nodded xbox for genesis. It's not like having a real genesis, but it will do.

I have the latest model as well as a bunch of other atgames stuff. The sound does suck. The latest model does not come with a PAL/NTSC switch in the back of the console. The board also looks to be a new revision with no jumpers to force PAL/NTSC. The unit possibly autodetects the waveform when it is turned on or perhaps they are forcing NTSC as most modern European televisions support NTSC and/or hybrid signals. I do believe this to be either the third or fourth revision of the console they have made so far. The shell design actually goes back to their Nes on a chip clones sold by atgames a few years earlier.

There is an elusive model that has no cart slot and runs games from an SD card slot in the back. Not sure whether this is made by AtGames or whether someone simply cloned the their hardware. The silly sonic and sega motion devices that you usually see in stores also have an SD card slot option on them. Believe it or not, the ROM compatibility is very high. Just about every rom i have thrown at the SD enabled firecore models runs fine except for Contra and Wonder Boy In Monster World. Nearly every unlicensed non-TMSS game i have played also runs.

There was an interesting SD card cart expansion cart similar to the everdrive units but only works on firecore consoles. They were made by AtGames and strictly sold to their distributors under various names such as the Mega Game Expert. AtGames officials have generally disavowed any knowledge of this device. I have yet to get my hands on one.

I do remember there was albeit a small band-aid modification you could do to the radica branded firecore models to fix some of the sound issues including some of the FM synthesis distortion and some missing PSG sound tones. Unfortunately, nobody has found a way to fix the octave level of the sounds. I'll have to break out my soldering iron in the coming days and see if the fix is still viable for the latest models.

I have one of these (in addition to the ninety-nine other Genesi I own) hooked up to my TV set right now.

I find the included games slightly funny. The first forty games are all gold star A+ titles like all the Sonic games, the Streets of Rage games, the Ecco games, the Golden Axe games, and the Vectorman games. Then the last forty games are solid crap that wasn't even on the Genesis like "checker," "color puzzle," "cross the road," "jewel magic," and "mr balls". Why did @tgames even include that crap?

The infra-red controllers are just as bad as every other infra-red controller. The old problem rears its ugly head. Lose the line of sight and lose control. Just throw these away and use official controllers.

The sound is terrible, agreed. Mono only being the first of many problems. The music is so bad, I mute the TV when I play this.

I have the Dreamcast disc you're talking about, and that much is true. Sega's own efforts at emulating Genesis games for Dreamcast fell short especially concerning the sound effects; However , that doesn't mean that Genesis sound emulation is always a bitch. Consider that Steve Snake's Kega Fusion has had perfect sound emulation for years. Also, I find the sound in Sonic Mega Collection and Sonic Gems collection for Gamecube to be top notch.

I feel obligated to mention what @tgames did right. Though the sound emulation leaves much to be desired, the video emulation is spot-on. The colors are crisp, bright, and clear even on the composite video cable.

Another pro for this device is the small form factor. The whole console is about the size of a Genesis cartridge. It really is that darn small.

My advice is to just buy a real Sega Genesis.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO horrible memories of butchered sound on that DC compilation. I only play it anymore for VC2.

I took a look at this 80-in-1 yesterday since Walgreens is apparently having a 29.99 deal on it. I was a bit disappointed to see only 40 games were for the Genesis and 40 were some type of homebrew collection.

Been meaning to get another real genesis. Sold most of my collection off and immediately regretted doing so.

The 40 bundled games which are not mainstream games were actually developed by a small firm in Brazil commissioned by TecToy for distribution in the Brazilian market. The Sega Master Sytem and Genesis were insanely popular in Brazil thanks to TecToy's marketing. These games were later distributed on a multi-cart by AtGames targeting South American countries. This cart is ultra rare.

I thought the wireless controllers were pretty good actually. I did have issues with it when i had it set up just under my tv which i have setup rather high. I simply set mine lower and a bit further back some and never ran into issues again.

for the lolz i'm going to go ahead and gut this atgames genesis again and compare it to the radica units. comparing a grainy shot i took a few weeks ago to my radica unit and it seems most of the firecore powered consoles use nearly identical hardware in varying different layouts. I'm sure the FM distortion and PSG sound fix can be applied to the Atgames consoles.

The irony about Sega's emulation endeavors is that their first commercial emulators used in compilation discs were commissioned by Sega from Snake during his early KGen days. Not really sure just how machine portable he made that code for Sega though as it was originally intended for the Sega Smash Pack compilation discs for windows.

Well I tried to play some genesis games on it and it pretty much killed the games. Wwf raw was horrid. Street fighter was nasty looking and the sounds of street fighter music was so high pitched it didn't even sound like street fighter anymore. Looked like I was playing games from ljn during the nes era. I ended up loosing a few dollars and selling it on craigslist.
